Nfcu gave me a $500 increase on my Amex from 10k to 10.5k. I also have platinum at 15k for 6 months - if I pay both off do you think I can get platinum to $25k? My income is $100k - I don't want to apply for any new credit for next 12 months

I agree .. asking on the Platinum, ask $25K,... you'll probably get $8K ..that is what I had got.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Data for anyone interested.

Also curious if anyone has any inight.

Prequel tool said i was prequalified for several cards ( I know it doesnt mean for sure)

Was given a CLI of 4k about a month or so ago

And for 2nd card and was declined. I have a chap 7 dc dec 2018 and no layes since. FICO 8 is 735 and income is 80k.

Hubby had the same prequels, apped and was also denied. His score is a bit lower, at about 695 (not really sure why) but he was denied as well.

No lates since before chap7 or new account for over a year.

Current cards with navy sit at 6k  and we've had them almost a year and a halfeach and we both were trying for a 2nd card. 🤷‍♀️

Called to ask for internal score and was told they dont give that number out and I couldnt speak to anyone in credit cards to try to recon

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

The nfcu prequal tool is not a for sure deal. I would let the bk age a bit more and the card that was declined- nfcu will Mail declination letter with internal score. But time is on your side. I'd wait 3-6 more months before applying again. Good luck.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

It seems as if Navy may be clamping down on second cards right now, I've seen a few what would normally seem like slam dunk approvals getting denied, just my observation

Paying off ones card is great but it isnt needed to apply for an increase with Navy.  Regardless of when you ask i would always shoot for 25k so as not to leave anything on tableSmiley Wink

Re: Navy Federal UPDATED CLI and 2ND ACCOUNT THREAD

I received a CLI from $1K to $5K earlier this month as I graduated their secured card program, which turned my secured card into an Unsecured AMEX with a slightly higher APR (15% to 18%).
Yesterday, I applied for a 2nd card and was approved for a CashRewards card $5K CL at 15% APR.

The CSR provided to me that my minimum qualified score of at least 600 qualified me for their CCs. The only card I could not qualify for at this time is the Flagship, which required a score of around 690. The CSR did provide to me that I could convert my CashRewards card to a Flagship once my score had reach into the 700s

Re: Navy Federal UPDATED CLI and 2ND ACCOUNT THREAD

I was able to get a checking and savings account with NFCU yesterday. I immediately did the credit card prequalification and was prequalified for all cards. Applied for the cash rewards and flagship, both denied with a message to apply for the secured instead. My TU is 658 according to Discover. I just paid off a couple collections that disappeared from my other two reports but not from the TU. I have a fairly high income (400k) and low utilization (usually less than 10%) on my cards.

Should I apply for the secured or wait for the collections to drop off the TU and apply for one of the non secured again?

If I get the secured, how long before I can apply for a nonsecured?

Does the amount you have in your NFCU accounts impact your approval chances?

How long do I have to wait to apply again for a nonsecured after the denial yesterday?

Finally, what is CLOC?

I've really enjoyed this thread and all the helpful info. Thank you guys.

Re: Navy Federal UPDATED CLI and 2ND ACCOUNT THREAD

A CLOC is a checking line of credit.

If I were you, I would wait for the letter detailing why you were denied.

In the meantime, what other CCs are in your wallet, what are your 3 FICO scores, how many inquiries in the last 3/6/12 months, and what is your average age of accounts.

|| AmX Cash Magnet $40.5K || NFCU CashRewards $30K || Discover IT $24.7K || Macys $24.2K || NFCU CLOC $15K || NFCU Platinum $15K || CitiCostco $12.7K || Chase FU $12.7K || Apple Card $7K || BOA CashRewards $6K
