Ok, so tried for a CLI on my Go Rewards and was denied the other day. Requested 25K because that seemed to be what people here suggested, although I'm really just looking for 5 or 6K. Really just need the ability to charge more so I can get max cash back on my wedding reception. I plan on paying it off within 30 days but I use this card as my everyday card so just need a higher limit to fit all of the charges.

Anyways, I was denied due to income. I make good money, monies direct deposited into my bank account every month, etc. but I'm technically self employed and I don't have two years tax returns. I tried sending three months bank statements and statement from parent company and they are saying that isn't good enough. They did a hard pull and my score was 685. I put about 1500-2000 on the card each month and basically pay in full (I'll leave 50-100 bucks so all of my cards don't show 0 balance). My utilization is below 2%. Is there anything I can do or am I just screwed here? I guess I can just use another card and/or apply for a new card, but I really like my NFCU card and would prefer all charges go on there. Thanks

It might just take longer because of the Self Employment thing but if the money continues to direct deposit eventually the computer will trigger sp cli and you can after an AR.

I would just get in the habit of after each AR submit for a "MAX" credit line increase later at night as if it goes into review you can usually get it cancelled before HP done if it at night.  At some point it will instantly counter you without doing review.  took me quite a while in the beginning to get in with navy on credit card and then get a nice big cli.

Re: Official NFCU CLI Guide

I guess I should add, the money isn't direct deposited into my NFCU account, but a different bank. I don't know, it's just crazy to me that between my fiance and I, I'm the one making more money with better credit, but I can't get a decent limit. Meanwhile, we got her signed up with NFCU a few weeks ago and she was instantly approved for a 15K initial limit on a Cash Rewards card. Oh well...

Re: Official NFCU CLI Guide

I would move your direct apposite to navy and if you have a joint checking account have your fiancé move how direct apposite to the computer system just picked up direct apposite and it will work in your favor

Re: Official NFCU CLI Guide

Well, didn't expect this...so this morning, I log in to check to make sure my one credit card payment went through and then planned on doing a recon through secured message. Click on my secured card and what do you know, I've had an automatic CLI of 1,400.

I guess I'm confused as to why I got an auto CLI when just the day before I was told I was turned down for a CLI. My question is, since clearly they don't seem to have a problem giving me a CLI, should I just now go ahead and recon the other card I want the higher limit on? Is it possible to have that 1,400 moved from one card to another?

Wait it's secure?
Did they refund your secure deposit?

Re: Official NFCU CLI Guide

No, didn't refund my deposit but actually gave me an auto CLI on my secured nReward card of 1,400 dollars for a total credit limit of 2,000.

Re: Official NFCU CLI Guide

I'd check again by Monday. Usually that means unsecured.

Re: Official NFCU CLI Guide

Pretty sure it's unsecured now.  You should see you deposit in your savings account in the next couple of days.

I'm self employed and coming from a credit train wreck, I gladly took what they gave me (1k sl), treated them right, they did the same for me(90 days to 25k). I am eternally grateful to them, will always treat them right and If NFCU improves their funds availability, they will become my everyday bank.

Re: Official NFCU CLI Guide

Got denied for cli increase cause the account is too new.  I'll stick with what I have and wait it out.  I'm thinking of moving direct deposit here now or st least 75% of it.  They give me way more love than Chase whom I have been with for over 15 years.
