Hi MyFicos,
I've been sitting patiently in the garden for approx. 9 months but I'm feeling an app spree coming on ![]()
- AAOA 13 months
- Credit History 1 year, 5 months
- 9 cards ... total combined credit limits: 11,500.00
- Average credit score: 740ish (I haven't updated my signature below in quite a while)
- Last credit card app: mid june 2017.
One of the cards I'm going to app for is the BlueCash Everyday but I have a question. I haven't yet requested the 3x CLI for the Amex Everday card I got in June ... I'm planning to request it this coming Friday (after my score jumps up because I paid down balances) ... so my question is:
if I request the 3x CLI for my existing amex card, will I have to wait six months to apply for the BlueCash Everyday card? Conversely, if I first apply (and receive) the BlueCash card, will I have to wait 6 months to 3x my current amex card?
Also, is it possible to be approved for 2 amex cards at once? I'd like to apply for the Amex Gold card also in this spree ... but not if they don't approve two cards in one spree. If it isn't a good idea, I'll apply for Discover.
As always, your help is appreciated ...

- AAOA 13 months

No. Conversely, if I first apply (and receive) the BlueCash card, will I have to wait 6 months to 3x my current amex card? I don't think so, I thought the rule applied to CLIs only not new cards. I could be wrong, though.
Also, is it possible to be approved for 2 amex cards at once? Yes. I'd like to apply for the Amex Gold card also in this spree ... but not if they don't approve two cards in one spree. Only limit is two revolvers every 90 days. You can have as many charge cards as you are approved and qualify for. If you have cards showing pre-approval in your account, it will be a soft pull. If it isn't a good idea, I'll apply for Discover.

I would wait a little bit longer, but I don't like my AOA under two years.
when you ask for a CLI, they normally go off of their last SP. You may want to wait until they update your score on their site.
For new cards, you may have to wait 5 days between credit card apps, although a charge and credit card could be approved on the same day. Many have gotten new approvals with a SP since they are already an Amex customer.
As far as AAoA, I think score bumps up and down coincide with full years of age, so if all scores are showing over 1 year, you would have to wait for a year's worth of age for a score bump. Creditors though may want to see not a ton of accounts in two years time opened though

If you request 3x on ED, you will have to wait 6 months for another CLI. If you don't use it, you will be "eligible" in 61 days of your account being open (BCE).

If it isn't a good idea, I'll apply for Discover.Typically most people do one revolving and one charge in a single app spree. I have read that AMEX will approve one on the spot and wait a week or so to approve the other. YMMV depending on pre-approval verbiage on the page.

Hi AverageJoesCredit,
Thanks for that info!
If I go ahead with the 3x on my existing amex on Friday, can I still go ahead and app for a new amex (or two) on Monday or do I have to wait 6 months for that also?
I have had the Amex ED for 6 months now. (SL $500 and credit steps, said CLI available if used monthly for 6 months then eligible for CLI) (No cli received since 6th statement cut but who knows)
I applied for Amex Delta Blue (pre approved) and Amex BCE (also preapproved) within an hour of eachother last weekend. Approved for both, at a low SL of $1000 but still happy to get in with another card from Amex. Approved for 18 months 0% interest for BCE and $1000 spend $150 cash back BCE and Delta Blue sign up bonus ($500 spend, 10,000 miles) so overall although it's a low SL, I'm happy. I want the sign up bonus for the miles, mostly.
Both cards were approved via SP. No HP here. Since I'm already an Amex customer, I figured it would be the case.

You dont need any more cards. Your average CL is $1200 across 9 accounts. Grow your existing accounts first..
