PayPal Credit Wont Allow Applying

So I have a paypal account and other than my SSN being on it, its all setup with a valid credit card and checking account. I have tried multiple times to apply for a credit line but when I do it says I am not eligible at this time.

Any idea why that would be?

I would be willing to think its due to no SSN on file but at the same time, they let you use the paypal account without one and I would think if you apply it would at that point ask. Its very odd.

Re: PayPal Credit Wont Allow Applying

This happened to me for months. I finally signed up again for a new account with a different email applied for PayPal credit and instantly approved.

Re: PayPal Credit Wont Allow Applying

Similar issue here - the reason is that I included a Bill Me Later account (Bill Me Later, of course, is the old name for PayPal Credit) in BK in 2014. Usually, when I experiment with pushing the "apply" button on eBay or some such site, I just get the message that I can't apply at this time. However, oddly, last Thursday when I was on the PayPal site taking care of another issue, I tried the "get more time to pay" button and was taken to the page to complete entering/updating my information. I went all the way to the end and was told "we can't approve you at this time, but you can still pay using PayPal". So I called PayPal Credit to see if I could get my account reinstated. The CSR offered to put in the request for me though she didn't sound optimistic about my chances, and said I should hear by today. I asked her about opening a new account and she said she didn't think that was possible with my current information, which sounded odd to me because I've read here of several instances of people being approved for PayPal Credit post-BK even if they burned BML/PayPal in an old BK. OP: if you ever had a bankruptcy, did you include PayPal Credit/Bill Me Later or another Comenity card/account in it?

I didn't know that about opening a new PayPal account with a different email than the one I generally use (might have better results when applying for PayPal Credit). I may have to try that.

Re: PayPal Credit Wont Allow Applying

I had the same issue for months. Everytime I tried to apply it would take me to a screen that said I wasn't eligible to apply. I had never had a Paypal credit account (Comenity)or BML account before. Only thing I had was a Business Debit Card with them. Thinking that the Debit Card might be the issue, I cancelled it and tried applying again. Same results. I finally called Paypal Credit and told them I was concerned with the fact that their system would not even let me apply for a credit account, stating I wasn't eligible. I asked why and what exactly would make me ineligible. I told them I didn't mind being declined for a legitimate credit related reason but the blanket you can't apply didn't work for me. The representative was baffled. She did something, don't know what, but when that conversation ended I tried again and was able to access the application form, submit it and was approved.  I have never had an issue since then and a couple months later was even approved for the Synchrony Paypal 2% Mastercard. I honestly think it was some type of "glitch" in their (Comenity)system that the representative overrode.
