I have a friend whose grandfather is 96 yrs old. He occassionally receives fliers like pre-selected and pre-approved marketing credit card offers from all kind of banks...and he always responds to those offers...and got all of them so far since last 3 yrs...
However, yesterday he very first time has received a pre-approved offer for one of the credit cards from a credit union- Penfed...which he very much wants to respond but wondering if Penfed would ask him proof of his ID like DL or state ID and proof of residence like some kinda utility bill which most CUs ask for...Banks dont ask... so he didnt have any problem but CUs are different. He said he doesnt have none of them because he is too okd to renew or get any ID... and all the bills are in the name of other family members of him.
I can not help him because I obtained Penfed cards many years ago and dont remember if Penfed asks for these documents or not. So, please help him out if you guys know anything about this..especially recent applicants... We all know that these kinda offers are never a gurantee but he wants to get into Penfed ecosystem... Thank you so much...
Im not sure if they will ask him for id, is he a vet?
In my case i joined with 15 bucks in a savings and 15 bucks in a checking. they asked quite a few questions about my military service including rank but never asked me for id. maybe they cross checked the military info?
Maybe he should just join penfed without initially apping for a cc . its cheap to open a savings, you can do it with 10 bucks that they will draw from his external bank account. if they require any id he will find out then
It's honestly YMMV. Some get asked for ID, others don't. No way to really know other than to apply.
