I'm considering opening up a checking/savings account with Penfed. From what I'm gathering I would need to be affilated with an organization, once I donate, can I just apply? If i receive an instant decision, can I go ahead and apply for a cc? Thanks in advance!

I signed up with one of the org.  $15

opened up a savings acct with $25

next day app'd for Promise got it 

day after app'd for PLOC got it

day after that I opened up a checking acct with $100 and got the Thrifty service which is a $500 credit line for overdraft protection.

that was how fast I app'd but the approvals took all of 2 weeks

Okay...Weird! I donated money to the Red Cross, went through the whole process. no confirmation of approval until the end, when I was setting up a password. I'm kinda nervous to apply. If i were to wait, would preapprovals show?

No preapprovals until the quarterly preapprovals roll around. You've already taken the hp so go for it. Pick a card that suits you best and app away. Good luck!😃
