Hello everyone, I am thinking about getting the Playstation Card w/ Capital One as my second card. I currently have a Discover Student card which doesn't increase unless I request for an increase. I have read on here about applying for different cards that they make pulls on your credit and how not many people like to get hard pulls...though being I only have 1 credit card, and no sort of loans (not even Student Loans). Would the playstation card act as a Store card or an actual card with Capital One if anyone might know?
The card falls in the range of 660-719 at the top, just have to scroll down using the Next button on the credit card "apply now" stuff and you will see it there. I am a Sony and Playstation person and have a PS4 so I can see myself using it for Playstation products such as games and movies, but just want to know if it would be a nice card to get for now.
Any advice would be great, and if you all think it's good to go, I might just send in the application for it tonight.
I have a Playstation card since December 2013. Started at $500 and I got a increase January 2015 Via love button. I'm now at $3,500.
everytime I would hit it, it said " This type of an account isn't eligible for increases"
In my option, if you not making a lot of PS purchases via Playstation store then I wouldn't get it. It is a easy card to get but I
wouldn't waste my time honestly.
this is NOT a store card. It is a Visa . Since your new to credit and you would benifit from it, You should apply I guess.
I got got the card with a Capital one CO and a $42k repo showing on my reports. Lol I say go for it.
I would not get that capital one card.
I would however go to capitalone.com and check if you have pre-qual offers for a credit card.
I would do the same at chase.com
citicards.com
americanexpress
I would suggest getting a total of 3 credit cards.
I think you might also want to see if you prequal for Chase on their prequal site. You put in your name address and last 4 and it'll show you if you have anything you prequalify for, no hard pulls. Do not apply to more than one card at a time with you being so new to credit. Your average age of open credit will be shot if you do and you'll have an extra hard pull for a year.
Pay attention to any offers you might see in the mail from Discover, Amex, etc and take those as a good sign if they're arriving.
I really like Playstation Network, and want to purchase some of the newer games for the PS4 since I only have 3 so far that actually interested me. I also like to rent and buy movies from the PSN. I need to request discover to increase my card with them as they were helpful in telling me how I can increase the limit.
But as it may be, Chase, Citi, or another Discover would work if it does interest me. But I will never ever ever get an AMEX. Everyone I make purchases with (other than food stores) do not take AMEX, I work for a company that doesn't take it, and lastly everytime that I go to a restaurant with my parents, the tip is never taken out of the card because they charge the -lack of better word for it- retailer/chain. I do not like how AMEX does business and their policies are horrible.
I really don't mind low limit increases really, I just don't want something right now that would be able to go as high as 50k or have unlimited balance because I know I would abuse it and get into a debt that I couldn't handle.
As for Pre-Qual:
Chase - Freedom, Sapphire Preferred, and Slate.
Citibank - N/A

Ask if Discover can increase it with a soft pull and don't let them do a hard pull to see if they can give you an increase, this may end up hurting you more than helping as you might not get anymore CL or maybe just a little. These forums love Chase, I just got my Freedom and it seems pretty straight forward, nice signup bonus. Possibility of a way higher CL at some point i'm sure but they do hard-pulls for CLI that you request which I am not fond of but will tolerate as this is not going to be my primary card but secondary. I am in love with my Amex BCE (whether you like them or not). Sometimes I go out of my way to use my Amex when I get terrible service at a place knowing the place makes less money on me that way. They're always sending me offers like what they're running now ($5 off a $25 purchase at texaco, or $10 off $50 at Lowe's) and they're useful benefits, not the pretend ones that we often see. I live in a tourist/hub city (Miami) and so everyone here is pretty much obligated to accept Amex but if they're not available everywhere in your area then it clearly will not be worth it to you. I love the low APR I have on a rewards card. Sometimes a low APR is more important than perks, especially if you're going to be carrying a balance. Have heard nothing bad about Citi but don't have experience with them.
