Hello All!
I’d like to open a few high limit credit cards and benefit from cash back rewards. Myfico scores are: Ex 740, Eq 750, and TU 746. Last 30 day late 9/15 on wells fargo private student loan.
Credit cards: Currently $27/$2750 on CaptialOne student card opened in 2008. $0/$750 on Nordstroms card opened 2003, and $0/$1090 Express store card opened 2001. In 2008 I closed 2 Chase and 2 Citi cards that had lates and were maxed out. They’ve been paid off since 2013 or so.
With so much to consider, I'd appreciate suggestions on top 3-5 credit cards I’m likely to qualify for. I don’t need a I’m thinking: Amex, discover card, capital one, and a credit union card since I’ll need a car loan in the next month. I’m also wondering if their personal loan can get me a rate lower than 7.5% for the remaining $9500 on my Wells Fargo student loan. I also just purchased a new home in August and will need to keep in mind inquires in case I want to refinance in the future.
Any thoughts on which cards I should go for and strategy ( ie. Applying for cc’s on the same day or credit union first? Thanks in advance!
First, hit up ALL the credit bank's prequalification pages and report back what they offer in terms of SL, APR range, etc. That'll help us see what you may already have a strong preapproval for -- not every prequalification is a strong preapproval but seeing what they tell you is important.
Second, you're going to have to share a bit about your spending habits/patterns/categories before anyone can help. Do you do a lot of travel or dining or specific categories where a 5% card may be better than a 2% overall card? Have you burned any creditors that might prevent you from an approval?
Cap One Venture is giving $400-$500 right now to open an account.
My score is lower than yours and I got $30k at 13.99% and received my $400 the same day I spent $3k.
2% cash back on everything when applied to a travel catagorized expense.
YMMV

Logical first step. I will try the prequal sites and report back. Thanks
That's awesome and EXACTLY what I'm looking for. How much does your possession of other high limit cards play in getting approved I wonder? I do recall reading that Capital1 pulls all 3 reports so I would definitely be bummed if my results didn't mirror yours. I'm going to go check out the offers I have from them to start. Thanks!
