Pre-approved for Chase Freedom, but I don't want a hard pull unless I am likely to get approval...

I'm looking to get a second credit card.  I have clean-but-thin credit.  No negatives, and only one account (bank loan) paid off with all on-time payments, no lates.
I was added as a co-applicant to a low interest rate Disover IT account about a month and a half ago for the purpose of increasing my score.
I've been keeping the balance below 9%, and have made payments throughout the month to keep it that way.  5k limit.

myFico (Identity Ultimate) scores are:
EQ: 681
TU: 700
EX: 648 (confused as to why this hasn't gone up after the discover account while the other two did, but that's for another time)

At this point, I want to open a second card, so I went to the pre-qualified offers page for Chase to get an idea of what is out there for me.

After submitting the request, I got a pre-approval offer for the Chase Freedom card.  After reading reviews, this seems to be a decent card to build credit age with.

At any rate, my main question is:

Should I expect to be approved based on the online pre-approval?

I would obviously rather wait more time if there is still a risk of not being approved, but if my profile seems like it's likely to be approved I don't want to waste time.

Given the above (no negatives whatsoever, very thin credit history), would you say i will likely be approved, or should i continue to wait before applying for a second credit builder?

Thanks.

Chase pre-approvals are pretty solid.  Obviously there is always a chance you won't be approved, but more often than not if you are preapproved through chase then you will get approved.

Great thanks.   So given my credit file and the fact that i was pre-approved on their site (i used this link) you think it's a very safe bet that i can move forward?

Out of curiosity, what sorts of things would lead to a pre-approval, but a denied approval?

Yea I think you should be fine.  A pre-approval is based on the last SP that Chase did of your credit.  It is always possible that when they last did a SP you were fine and have since racked up more inq or higher util or even baddies on your account.  They won't see these in the pre-qual, but when they actually pull your report they will and then they could deny you.  Generally speaking, unless something major has changed in the last 30 days, then your pre-approval should still hold true.

In addition, the Freedom is the easiest card to get in Chase's collection.  A lot of people have gotten it as their first bank card and watched it grow.

That's good.  Zero has changed in the last 30 days.  My Discover is set up for auto pay, so I will never be late (but I pay off any purchase I make that week so it's a non issue).

I just applied, but got this-- any idea what it means?  Good?  Bad?

"Thanks for applying.

We need to review your application a little longer.

We'll let you know our decision in writing as soon as we can. If we approve your application, you'll receive your card in the mail in 7-10 business days. Please don't resubmit your application.

Thanks for choosing Chase Freedom® Credit Card"

Looks like it could just be verification.  Give them a call and ask if they need anything else to approve your application.

Give them a call right now if you are less busy and see what is going on.  That is what the credit analysts are for.  Keep us posted on results..

As yes-its-me said, give them a call most likely verification if your applied through the pre-qual site.. Scores are well within range.  It will only take 5 minutes total to ask status of application, get transferred to verification etc
