Does anyone despise those terms as much as me? I resent them all, especially when their marketing partners like Credit Karma - Sesame - Wallet Hub - Experian - Nerd Wallet and Lending Tree display totally & scurrilously opposite "approval odds" on any given card. It's strange, because whether its from a mailed brochure or online, everyone of them including the card issuers (like AMEX and Citi) themselves are privy to every Item of information about me. Are they deliberately trying to lower our FICO scores with rejections & wasted hard inquiries in the desire to low-ball us to low tier cards? I'm getting repeated urgings to upgrade from Amex Gold to Platinum, Amex Delta Gold to Delta Platinum while at the same time getting 'offers' from CitiBank (I have the Costco VISA Signature) only for the Simplicity and Diamond Preferred. (oooh!..diamonds!) Either stop lying and teasing or tell me I AM approved or is that only for Ubermenschers getting a Centurion card invitation?
Huh?
Don't look at them, and they become non issue. They are businesses, they use monetized recommendations to generate revenue and just because it's there, it doesn't mean one should pay attention.
Those sites aren't your financial advisors, you're a potential income source and they want referal fee.
If you're watching TV, you aren't (hopefully) going to buy what each tv commercial is selling, this is no different.
However, if you like conspiracy theories better, then yup, they be trying to take our Ficos away!

That's a hot take you got there.
It's marketing, they're businesses trying to get you to use their product. I can assure you any of them couldn't care less about your Fico score. If you are having urgings to upgrade a card, either upgrade it or dont, not sure why you're so triggered here. Did you apply for a pre-approved offer and get rejected?
Are you upset you are only getting Citi pre-quals for the Simplicity and Diamond Preferred?
