Hi Everyone,
New to the forum, long time lurker, hopefully you all will take it easy on me
I've been reading quite a bit lately about CSP + Freedom Unlimited being a great combination of cards to accrue travel points. I haven't applied for a card in over 3 years so I figured I'd give it a shot. Went to Chase website, found out I was "pre-approved" for CSP, Freedom Unlimited and Slate. I figured I'd apply for both CSP and FU consecutively and keep one or both but the CSP is the one I really want since I tend to put all of my expenses on one card. Minimum spend wouldn't be a problem for the initial bonus offer.
Applied for FU first, instant approval $5500 limit. Now I have no idea why I applied to my 2nd choice card first, it was 12:30am and I obviously wasn't thinking clearly. Went back and applied for CSP and I received the 30 day message. I figured, OK, no big deal because the forums say 30 day message is a good thing.
I check my mail today and there is a denial letter regarding the CSP with the following message:
Our decision was based on these specific reason(s): Too many requests for credit or opened accounts with us.
This was the only reason given. I'm guessing it isn't based on inquiries because the Chase app was my first hard pull in over 3 years. I've never had any financial accounts/products with Chase so it can't be that. I'm guessing if denial was based on credit scoring or something they didn't like on my report it would have mentioned something to that effect on the denial letter. I only have two other credit cards so it's not 5/24 or whatever it's called.
Could this be simply because I apped for the FU before applying for the CSP? Do you guys think this would be worth calling the recon lines I hear so much about? Maybe they'll let me trade in my FU for the CSP... or best case scenario approve me for CSP in addition!
If recon is recommended, is there a best strategy with which number to call from the ones below?

Thank you for your help, looking forward to being more active on here!
My husband was just offered the same products in his "offers", as he already has the Chase Freedom. He applied for the Freedom Unlimited, went into pending with 2 weeks. After two days, approved for $4,500. He was tempted to apply for the CSP as well, as it is still showing in his offers so we could have the "trifecta", but I am sure it will be denied due to applying for two cards so soon through them.
He is 11/24 as well, so I think waiting until you get an offer again is the way to go.
Back to your post (sorry!), I would call recon and see if there is a chance for reconsideration. You'd want to contact the credit card lending department. Very curious if they would approve it so shortly after your Freedom Unlimited approval. Good luck!
Thanks, I'll give it a shot and update!
