I have a question I’m hoping someone can shine some light on. I’ve been helping my Mother in law with her credit rebuild since her divorce 4 years ago. Her ex had built up 5 figure debt on credit cards in her name and she closed all her cards and paid them off without realizing the ramifications. I’ve since helped her re-establish credit with Capital One and AMEX. Her Capital One card has a CL of $4k and AMEX has $10k (which is also the SL, opened 5 months ago).
She has moved in with her fiancé and is getting married in 2 days. We discussed asking for credit line increases on her cards and used their new combined income. Increase from $45k to $125k. When we requested the increases online she received the 7-10 day messages online.
What should she expect with such an income increase being reported? Should she call to say she got the message and she wanted to verify the income change didn’t spook them?
For AMEX we asked for an increase from $10k to $20k and got the 7-10 day message. Maybe tonight I will have her call AMEX to see what's going on with the request. If they deny it, how long does she have to wait to request again?
