SPORTSMAN GUIDE VISA PREAPPROVAL??

Hi guys,

Ive been working on rebuilding my credit... but have also been checking preapprovals for my wife. She has 680+ Fico with 2 negs (1 has to be disputed) however all payments ontime including a $40k loan from Chrysler.

A few months ago we opened up a Tmobile account who pulled her credit  (first pull in quite a while).

Chase sent her a preapproval for the Freedom which we just apped for and were approved for $3k instantly.

The freedom will be her first rewards card which she'll be utilizing a lot for her business. For about 3 years shes been using a regular Chase master card and hasnt gained anything for it.

Sportsman guide also sent a preapproval but I was wondering if this would be a hard pull? She owns a Salon/Spa so we're looking for the best rewards card to fit her needs.

Is the Sportsman Guide visa worth it? Do they give high initial CLs? I did some research and notice people saying different things.. I'd appreciate it if someone who recently apped can chime in.

Thanks!

Also within the next month or two we plan to refinance our Vehicle through DCU... so I don't want to do anything that would affect approval from DCU. I doubt 2-3 new cards would cause any problems with them?

Hard to say whether it's 'worth' it.  If you get one definitely PIF because the interest rate is pretty high.  As for credit limit, they gave me $7000 when my scores ere in the 650-670 range.  And if you apply from the pre approval it definitely will be a hard pull.

If nothing in the credit report has changed significantly since Comenity did the soft pull for the preapproval, it will very likely be an instant online approval. However, there will be a hard pull as well.

If you don't shop at Sportsman's Guide regularly and aren't a member of their Buyer's Club, I wouldn't reccommend the card.

It has a univeral high interest rate and really provides no significant rewards beyond the extra 2.5% SG merchandise discount if you are a member.

For those who regularly buy ammunition from SG, the 7.5% discount for being a club member and card holder is a decent benefit, but there are far better general rewards cards around for those in the 675-700 FICO range than this one.

Not sure if it still counts as a "store" card though as it's a VISA, so one could use it to pad UTL with a higher limit.

I'm also getting the preapproval popup on the site... will that be a hardpull? if I just apply directly rather than using the preapproval code, would it make any difference? I want to avoid the hard pull if possible.

Thanks guys

Yeah, the only reason I was interested was because I read that some users didn't get a hard pull? AND they offer higher CL which would look good on her report...

She has a preapproval for the Cap1 Venture card and the QS1... is that a good card?

Also would 2-3 new cards affect DCUs approval for the refinance of our truck?

Re: SPORTSMAN GUIDE VISA PREAPPROVAL??

Maybe it isn't worth it... I'm sure if Cap1 is offering her the Venture rewards card (one of their best cards, she'll get the QuickSilver) So I might give that  a shot... she had an Amex back in 2008.. ultimately I'd love for her to get approved for another one for the back dating but not sure if I should give that a shot yet? What are your thoughts on Amex? Which of their cards would/should she qualify for with a 680~ score and do they have A recon line?

The pop up application is a soft pull.  That's how I got mine.  I'm not quite sure what will happen if you use the preapproval code.
