I would like to know how many points my score will drop if I apply for an AMEX. I think I will get approved. All bureaus are at about 720, and my income is six figures. Im just super nervous to apply. I initially wanted to go straight for the Platinum card however, Im not sure that I would get approved without having been a part of the Amex family. I've done the pre-approval on Amex's website a million times and it says I'd be approved for the Gold Premium Rewards and the Green Card. Should I put any faith in that ? What do you guys think? Help!!!
Hello and welcome to the forum! I don't think there is anything to be nervous about. Unless you've had any negatives on your report in the past or maybe with AMEX then I'd say that would be more reason to be cautious when applying for any of their cards. But I think you are good to go based on your Score and Income. Visit the AMEX site and see if you get a pre approval for any of their revolvers or charge cards which is what you were interested in. UW should be the same for all charge cards so if you want the Platinum, you can apply for it so as long as there are pre-approvals showing for any of their charge cards on the website. Good Luck and report back!
Their preapprovals are normally solid. If you want the Platinum app for that one.
I don't think you'll have any issues getting a card given your scores and income, however, I would NOT go for the Platinum due to its high AF ($550?) and this is a pay in full card charge card not a credit card. As far as scores dropping due to 1 inquiry, I would not worry about that.
As far as how much your scores will drop with an assumed approval it's hard to say without knowing how the rest of your credit profile looks like. For the Platinum card if you're getting pre-approvals for the gold/green cards pretty sure you're solid to get the Plat card since they have similar underwriting; just be aware the $550 AF will be charge on your first statement.
based on your profile, I think you will approved for Platinum. Go ahead.....

I was approved for two revolvers in the same day on the same hard pull so I’m not sure where people are getting some of this information.
Yes, recent data points suggest the one revolver rule no longer applies.
