So Amex Pre-Approved me..Help me figure this out..

In the last two months, I’ve cleared my credit of all negative items through deletions and now I’m over 700 on all Fico 8’s. Just today, my secured Capital One card posted my $5 balance to experian and that score increased 14 pts. Yayyy

Before all this, I couldn’t get approved for anything unsecured. So with the new scores, I’ve been using all the prequal tools and today Amex finally recognized me as a human being with credit lol. They’ve pre-qualified with for these products:

Blue Cash Everyday Card
Amex Everyday Card
American Express Green Card

Look, I’m EXTREMELY new to all these rewards cards. One is talking about percentage back and the other is talking about points. I mean I buy groceries like everyone else so I can use that kind of reward. What’s the best card here? Any suggestion will be appreciated.

With your Experian score at 740+, I’m 99% sure you’ll be approved for any Amex card you desire, even ones that didn’t appear on the pre-qual. The question is whether you value cash back or membership rewards points; if you simply want to be rewarded for your purchases with statement credits or gift cards, then obviously cash back is the way to go. Personally I find MR points to be more valuable since I value travel more, especially since they can be transferred to airline partners and you can get a pretty good value out of them that way. For example, something like 75k MR points could get you 2 round trip tickets to Spain— maybe that seems like something you would be interested, for me it certainly is.

Once you figure that out, and if you’re like me and value MR points more, I would probably get the PRG since its the most balanced MR earning structure, and then probably double app with either the Everyday or EDP to get the best MR earning. But again, look through all of the MR earning cards and figure out which one fits your spend the best.

And remember to apply on your private browser, if you applied for both the ED and PRG incognito, and met the minimum spend, you got yourself 75k MR points right there with a $4k spend between the two cards.

Ok so the way you broke that down is making it easy for me grasp. Do you happen to know if Amex uses the Fico bankcard Scores? Because my experian bankcard scores are close to 790.

Fico 8 scores, but they pull religiously from Experian so you’re in good shape; sorry I can’t quote, I’m on mobile.

I’m mobile too. Only used computer on here once to put those cards in my signature earlier today.

Ok so Fico 8 is what they use. Got it.

This seems a significant point yet for the life of me I can't figure out what it means -- mind explaining?

If you are looking for Cash Back, and if majority of your spend is for Groceries and Gas. Then the BCE would be a good card to apply for. The card has no annual fee and AMEX will grow with you, if you treat them right. As far as Cashback, the only downside is that, the sole option to cash your rewards is through statement credit. So if that works for you, I think you have really good odds to get approved for this card, or any AMEX card that you would like.

Just for clarification, statement credit benefit you when you carry a balance, right?

Some Cashback reward cards give you the option of getting all the dollar rewards you've earned get deposited into your bank account, or you can also apply them as statement credit. With AMEX, the rewards are strictly available as statement credit. And you earn regardless whether you are carrying a balance or PIF each time.
