Some expenses coming up. Open a new card?

Happy sunday to you all!
I have ~2k in expenses coming up this winter, "z32 120k mileage maintanence- someone tag devil and brian lol" and im toying with the idea to open up a third card and get an easy sub. But I am also aware I may be a bit thin and wont even get an SL to cover everything. Thus i have come for some advice!
Considering either freedom or uber; amex gold is also one of my goals if i can get the 50k sub to pop. What would you all do?

Re: Some expenses coming up. Open a new card?

Jeez OP, $2k?? I hope that includes an ECU reflash and some RC 555cc injectors! Lol granted it’s been awhile since I timed a Z but I think I paid $350ish for the kit. Are you going to DIY or have it done? If you’re having it done, the cost makes more sense (seems a little high still though). If you can get a SUB on a new card, I would go for it - May as well get something for the money right?

Side note - see if Unorthodix Racing (UR) still sells the underdrive pulley and belt kit if you don’t have it. It made my car rev more quickly since the stock 15-20lb crank pulley was replaced with the 3lb UR pulley and definitely livened it up. No extra labor cost either since the belts and pulley come off for the timing service. You might look into a low-temp thermostat too, since I’m sure you’re aware how hot the VG30 engine runs. That and a bottle of Redline Water Wetter in the coolant always kept my car running safely cool even in high heat.

Re: Some expenses coming up. Open a new card?

Ya im having it done, im not savvy, nor do i trust myself enough to do this on my own haha. The full kit with all oem on concept-z is about $650 right now with the coolant bypass hoses an all. Im only an NA with an LS swap in my future. But ill defintly look into that pully. Thoughts on my dp's? Frankly i think its a miracle ive gotten discover up to almost my rough income haha

Re: Some expenses coming up. Open a new card?

I think your DPs are good for an app. I will say though I’m not sure if Gold would be the one for the work - they may be a little gun shy on getting the card and immediately throwing two grand on it. You can call and ask a rep but as a new Amex member it may be declined. YMMV as always but you’ll probably need to warm them up with smaller charges before throwing an expense that size on the card.

Since you’re NA, definitely do the pulley upgrade. I noticed it very much when mine was NA - the response was there and adding 10-12hp was more noticeable then, than it was after my TT swap (510hp feels just like 500hp).

Re: Some expenses coming up. Open a new card?

Your profile is fine for approval on all the cards you mention. Additionally, you don't have a pile of recent accounts. And your newest account has aged sufficiently.

But with your income, I wouldn't expect totally predictable behavior out of the Gold card, i.e. you don't really know if you can charge 2k or not. I think a better time to acquire that card would be when you were looking at smaller charges that could be paid off frequently. A couple months of that would likely have AMEX ready for a 2k charge.

My vote is for the Freedom, but I think a lot of cards would work in this situation.
