Strangest application denial I have seen from Capital One

I have had the platinum and the quicksilver for a little over a year. Have had the CLI's as expected and also was granted a recent upgrade from the QS card to the Venture One.

I just decided to app for the Savor card last night and got denied.

I got the letter in my email and this is the reason they stated they denied me.

"Based on your application information, there is a currently pending or recently processed application with Capital One"

What? I don't recall doing any other applications with them since I got the other cards. I called the support line and was told the recon people won't be in until Monday morning so I will have to call then and find out what they say.

anyone else ever receive this type of rejection? If so, what was the outcome if you tried to recon?

could it be the upgrade they are counting?

Well, normally I would say it's because Capital One only approves one card every 6 months, but if your other 2 cards are over a year old, then that can't be it. Unless they counted the upgrade as an application. I'd say just wait till Monday and ask what's going on.

I'm thinking the upgrade counted as the new application? They just didn't have a denial reason to exactly describe your specific change. Just a guess.

To add a DP for the PC being the reason:  I PCd my QS card on 10/31/19, and then was approved for my Savor card on 2/21/20. If it is in fact the PC that they were using as to what your recently processed application meant, then that is a policy that is either a YMMV situation, or that has changed over the past year. OP, I'm very sorry to hear about your denial. Please keep us in the loop as to what Cap1 says when you contact them on Monday.

Isn't there a max of 2 cards with Capital One?

It depends on which card you are applying for. As stated per the T&Cs on Cap1's website:  For Secured, Platinum, QS1, and Journey, you may not apply if you currently have 2 or more open accounts with Capital One. For Venture, Savor, V1, S1, and QS, you may not apply if you currently have 5 or more open accounts with Capital One.
