Synchrony Recommendations?

Just got approved for Lowes, my second Synchrony card.

I am debating on how many other Synchrony bank cards to apply. Just utilizing TransUnion, at the moment. I'm done with retail cards though.

Here are some of their card products that I'm debating over, in alphabetical order. Preferably, I'd pick those without an annual fee... if they are Signature or World cards, or if they have any long term meaningful cross utility.

Basically looking for the fastest growing card, all else being equal.

Please share your experiences. This list is not set in stone. I'm looking for ideas and best practice strategies with Synchrony in specific. Is there a limit to the number of cards opened, at once? Might it not look a bit tacky to have so many Synchrony cards on one's credit?

Cathay Signature $95 AF
Ebates Visa Signature
Infiniti Visa Signature
Marvel MC

Stash Signature $95 AF
Walmart MC

Re: Synchrony Recommendations?

Many people say that Synchrony tops out $100,000 total credit lines.

In the past many of us called in and had out CL raised to $25,000 and beyond with Lowe's. This would only be necessary if you were planning a big purchase/project and needed their special financing.

I also have their Marvel card as it gets me 3% CB on dining and some entertainment options.

I have their Amazon store card for the 5% CB and occasion 0% financing option.

Finally have their Nissan Visa that I utilize for service or could use for a future car/truck.

My wife has the Sam's Club card that we use for 5% gas.

For you, I would look at one more Synchrony card and not poke the bear for awhile. Maybe Wal-mart or Marvel would be my suggestion.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I'm leaning towards either the Ebates Visa or the Infiniti Visa, because they're both Signature cards, with no annual fee.

I also agree with just adding one more card with them, for now. But, is this based on any internal policy time frame for card openings?

Re: Synchrony Recommendations?

I would suggest that you tread lightly and proceed with caution.  Opening several Synchrony backed cards in a short period of time hasn't yeild the best results for some folks around here.  I'm not saying that this is something that is guaranteed to happen but I wouldn't suggest pushing the envelope very much.  Just my thoughts...best of luck in whatever choice you make.

Re: Synchrony Recommendations?

I wouldn't do three sync cards in under two years. Not a chance.

I've read reports of folks with as fee as three getting the blue envelope or total closure.

I liked the idea of the Ebates cards until I read the restrictions. Didn't work for any of the websites I shop from!

Stick to other lenders and be aware that Sync can also take AA from opening too many accounts after you get a Sync account.

Don't put all of your eggs in the same basket.  If you have a good/very good TU, try State Farm Bank.

Re: Synchrony Recommendations?

The Cathay Pacific card would be my #1 if you fly to/from/within Asia a lot. Since they are part of One World Alliance, so your domestic status with AA would transfer over when flying CP.
