Hey everyone, I am back again with another question! The other day, I requested a CLI for my TJ Maxx Mastercard as it had been 6 months since I first got this card.
The process involved calling and speaking to a person who was entering my income information and requested CLI into a system and reading me the results. They were unable to offer me any CLI and had me specify the amount I wanted. I tried twice, first with an additional 5k (to make my total CL 7k), and then after being denied for that, I asked for only an additional 2k for 4k total. After that, I gave up. I mentioned I wanted a CLI for Christmas shopping, but the person on the phone was just using the system and didn't have the authority to take that information into account.
This was different from the last CLI I requested and received for my Amazon Chase card where I simply asked for a CL, was not prompted to give a specific amount, and was instantly approved for the amount they were willing to give me.
I'm wondering if it's possible that I was asking for too large of an increase and that I may have more luck asking for only an additional 1k or $500 (though this won't help me much toward the goal of increasing my total available credit to keep my utilization as low as possible).
Another thing to note is that I haven't used this card's current CL that heavily and generally have double digit balances, which I pay off before they are even due (in addition to having autopay on to pay off the full statement balance). The largest balance I've had was about $150.
Would it make sense to use this card a bit more heavily before I request another CLI, or should I try for a smaller amount?
I'm interested in any advice or any experience members here have had with CLIs on the TJ Maxx card.
Thank you in advance!
Too soon + not enough spend.
Keep in mind too that store cards generally have lower limits. $2000 on the TJ Maxx card is not bad.
In short, you haven't shown the Synchrony algorithm that you need extra credit at TJ Maxx. Because you don't.
Also, how many other Synchrony cards do you have?
Thank you for taking the time to reply, @BuckyB! If getting more Synchrony cards would help me, that is great news since I recently added the PayPal Mastercard, which is through Synchrony (though I have no plans for more than two). With this being a brand new card, I need to have it longer and use it more, as with the TJ Maxx card that is only 6 months old.
A store card with a $2000 CL is definitely a high limit in my experience - mine have typically ranged from $400-$1500 in the past, so I agree I'm lucky to have the CL I do.
Not having enough spend lines up with the letter I received from Synchrony, sooner than expected. I'm interested in anything I can learn about the account performance score and what constitutes sufficient information.
