thanks!!
Wonderful post. I moved forward with your direction and was able to get 3X CLI without a problem.
Just got approved yesterday for 3x CLI. I applied for Delta Rewards Gold and got the message that they would let me know. Found out a little later that I had been approved for $2,700. Waited until my third statement cut and then applied online for CLI. Instant approval for a new credit limit $8,100. This forum has been very helpful I didn't even know this was possible before reading this.
@scenery_guy wrote:Thanks for the instructions on transferring limits. I received the Hilton card on 2/12/2013 so it's going to be quite a wait. Sad thing is I was hoping to churn the card but I don't think I can bear to close a card with a $17,700 limit.
I just followed the instructions and it looks like I can't move limits between personal and business cards. "You can request to have a portion of your available credit transferred between two of your eligible consumer credit cards or two of your eligible business credit cards." Ouch. Now I need a new plan.
I guess I will try the 3X request and submit the 4506T when it comes. Would rather wait a year before FR as 2012 was a spectacular year for me, AGI better than 2X what was on my applications. If that's the case I will be staying put where I am now, no new apps with AMEX, no card changes, no closing cards to wait for 12+ months for a churn opportunity.
Bummed.
Today was day 180 for me so I decided to try for a CLI on my Business Delta Reserve card. Did it online, limit was $5K and I asked for $15K. Instant approval. I figured it would be as I have been spending a lot on this card and my other AMEX Business cards so far this year. The 3X increase is going to help as I won't need to pay this card off weekly unless I get really busy. I'm pushing a lot of spend on my two Delta cards to get the MQM bonuses that increase my medallion status just on spending. Once I get all 50K MQM for this year it's back to the Platinum card for business spending.
Data point - I now have $40,700 in revolving credit (combined personal and business) with AMEX and no request for the 4506T when I asked for more credit. I understood that the magic number was $35,000 before they asked for returns. No worries if they eventually do but it appears I missed it this time.
Yayyyy Me!! Joined the Amex Family in April, got approved for $3,500 with the BCP! Was kind of sad due to the low line of credit (was generous to finally be apart of the family though) and because I usually only get increases every 6 months, and I thought I would have to spend 10k in order to get to that increase, but lord behold I stumbled upon this post!! (Thanks so much!!!) I had got it in the mail on the 7-8th and activated on the April 10th. Spent the whole 3,500 ($3,493) by the end of april/early may; got the bonus $150, and then paid K in may, and finish the rest of the payment 4 days before the request for increase (June 6th) [Cycle ends on the 14th] but I wanted to give the payment time to go through, but this morning I put the 3x request in for 10,500 and submitted my income and all that good stuff, and WAlllahhhhhhh approved!! $10,500! Was scared at first due to the fact I thought I was asking for too much, (was just just going to ask for 8k) due to my limited but excellent credit history, but I went for it and yipeeeee stoked and excited!!!! Now my utilization will always stay below 2-10% mixed with my other cards
Thanks for the guide!!!! P.S. I guess I asked on the (62nd day) to be safe. So if you follow my post, and your in my age group and shooting for the same limit/card don't be scared to go through my rambling, it might help! -LJ 8) #AmexFamily
Tip: Oh btw, they do soft checks every month on your accounts, so make sure after your first statement, you order a report then dispute your report online, go to inquiries, and under amex account, and amex inquiries (not hard pulls) check when they check it, and make sure your accounts are in low utilization/you don't have any crazy outstanding balances on the day they check, so that when you do ask for that increase your risk level is lower (since your risk level is based off that last soft pull that, they give every month); and I don't think you have to pay your account off before you ask for the request, but I would do so if your credit history is limited like mines/ just to be safe, but I know you don't have to! -LJ Cheers!

Congrats!
Thanks!!!
Writing here to thank the thread and great support from the forum.
I was approved for BCP in April with $2k limit.
I let the first 2 statements both report and then PIF both times. After the 2nd stmt was PIF and was reflected online, I requested 3x cli from $2k to $6k with instant approval.
Thanks all for the help!
Woohooooo Congrats!!!!!!!!!!
Just got the denial letter in the mail today... Was denied because of low score. But they are using an outdated score. In the letter the show my Experian score on May 4th as 634 but I just pulled it from annualcreditreport today and it's 694. Would I have any luck calling a CSR to run it again or am stuck waiting the 90 days?
