Hello everyone!
I am thinking about adding a third Amex to my wallet. Right now I have the Platinum and BCP, I love the cards and use them for **bleep** near 100% of my spending. I want to pick up the Gold card to take advantage of more of the everday multipliers on gas, groceries, and restaruants.
When I filled out the pre-qualification form it didn't come back with anything, however when I log into my account and click the "apply now" button for the gold card it says "Congratulations, you're pre-approved".
When I applied for the BCP (second card) they didn't do a hard pull, do I have any reason to think there might be one this time?
Thanks in advance!

IMO, it is more than likely to be approved as SP, but always keep in mind there's always a possibility of a HP. Over the years, I've had multiple AmEx CCs and there have been a few instances where a HP has sneaked in, but I expected it.

Great Info thank you!
If you don't mind me asking, what caused you to expect the HP?

Whenever you apply for credit you should expect a HP and be grateful if it is a SP.....

In my case, it was either due to the application or offer source, in some cases applying incognito if an offer was targeted or yielded a higher SUB vs being logged in. But, then there were other instances where it just happened. But, I was perfectly ok with it because at the end of the day, it's only an inquiry...not like sending a probe across interstellar space

Very true haha.
When it says im pre-approved but also says I can get a decision in less than 30 seconds, what exactly does that mean? I know that pre-approval can still be dependent on a HP, but I did note that they used "pre-approved" instead of "pre-qualified"
I have 2 inquiries falling off next month, would there be any benifit in waiting seeing as its a charge card and things like interest dont really matter to me?
I wouldn't worry too much about the verbiage. Given the pre-approval text, you'll likely fine. As my sig shows, I carry a lot of Amex. I was only hit with a HP on my first card. Since then it's been SP's, even for the business cards. No reason to think yours would be any different. Perhaps a long span between cards (a couple years or more) could trigger a HP, but I don't think we have any hard data points on that as of now.
Amex isn't real sensitive to inquiries, at least in my experiance. Good luck!
Thank you for the input!

"Pre-approved" is their standard verbiage to indicate an elevated probability of approval when an existing cardholder shows interest in applying for a given card. The only other verbiage used is close to "Expanding your relationship with us is easy..."
I was getting approvals from them when I had 40+ inquiries reporting on Experian; I also took hard pulls for cards #1, #4, and #8. I think it's probably safe to say that while no existing cardholder is immune from taking an additional hard pull when applying for another card AMEX isn't inherently scared off by lots of inquiries reporting either.
I've mentioned on the site before that I got hard pulls on cards #1, #4, and #8
Awesome, thank you so much for that!
