Yes sometimes you can call lending and they will pull the app, see its verification and transfer you to that department. What happened to me last December, I applied for two cards at once, both went into two week status, I called the analyst number on the first card...he raked me over the coals about my report then denied. The other app I didn't call on...waited and about two weeks later got verification letter. That was Marriott. I was nervous about calling, but did (called the number on the letter, not lending) and was approved after answering questions for $7k. My advice is always wait when you get the two week message, call and recon (if you dare) when you get 7-10 days.
Here's a friendly amendment to this advice: I would definitely call the Chase verification line (NOT the recon line) whenever you get a "within two weeks" message on the automated app status line. That's because a "within two weeks" message usually means they simply need to verify some information before approval.

On the other hand, if you get the "within 7-10 days" message, it's almost always a denial. Since you've already incurred an HP on your CR, it doesn't hurt to call. Even if you're not successful in reversing the decision, at least you'll know why you were denied. This morning, I called the Chase verification line after getting the "within two weeks" recording on my Marriott Rewards card application. The CSR asked me a couple of questions to verify my existing Chase checking account, and then "Congratulations, you're approved for an initial CL of $6,000". Thanks, Chase!
I hope mine turns into a 2-week message. I'm on my 6th day of the 30-day message. I'd prefer the cards just show up in the mail. Which judging from Chase's email lag, that's what will happen and I'll get the Welcome email 7 days later. lol
LOL You're probably right! But the "within 30 days" and "within two weeks" messages are functionally the same. I would suggest calling the verification line if you're anxious for an answer. In due course, you may receive a letter asking you to call anyway for verification.l

I suspect that's good news! I'm surprised they didn't give you an approval right away over the phone. That seems to be the norm when the only issue is verification of your information. The number I called was (877) 470-9042, which I was given by a Chase CSR but is also listed in the Backdoor Numbers section.

Scratch that I found the right number...I answered a few verification questions and the rep said my app is being submitted for final approval. Not sure if that's good or bad

This Friday will be my deadline. That would have been 9 business days. I want to be able to have them send it overnight before I go on an extended vacation out of the country. I could rack up my minumum spend on my vacation.
FYI I received final approval on my Marriott Rewards card this morning (by calling the verification line). I asked for expedited delivery but the CSR said they're only able to offer that on Chase-branded cards, not co-branded cards like United, Marriott, and Hyatt. But you should ask for it anyway; AMEX always sends cards out by UPS 2nd Day Air, even co-branded products, whether the customer asks for it or not!
