I saw that the application went live this morning so I went ahead and submitted. It went pending immediately so I'm not sure if all of them have to go through manual review at this stage.
My first question was whether I'd be able to apply online. I have a business card with US Bank, but no personal accounts with them currently. According to the intel we've seen leading up to the launch, they said that a personal account relationship was required and in fact on the application page it says "for US Bank Customers". I wasn't sure if a business account would qualify, but I was able to submit the application.
Just to check things out, I went to the main page and it did appear that the linke to apply was available even if I wasn't logged in (to my business account). Again, don't know if this is intended, if it is temporary or if the applications from non-customers just go pending or are denied.
Will update when I know more. I had the suspicion that applying on the launch day wouldn't be entirely smooth, but we'll se what happens during the manual review and I'll update.
happypill I am sure that US Bank needs a contact by you since the Business Card Members are likely to be denied (apparently the system does not recognize business card members) and the US Bank banker would go into the system and connect you as a already existing customer.
Found the following on the Frequent Miler site: What if I only have business accounts with US Bank? Currently, your application will be automatically declined, but if you apply through a US Bank banker, they can contact underwriting to ensure that your application for the card is not declined. US Bank says that they are working to fix this later this year.
Not surprising that old school US Bank set up the new card and it's systems can't cross over and find Business Clients ... amazing or not! Call the phone number on your business card or a phone number on the 7 to 10 day pending if they gave you one and speak with a US Bank banker. Also, saw something where it could take 5 to 35 days using other methods for "new customers" to be identified and results to follow.

Thanks, appreciate the intel Dinosaur! I had a strong feeling that I would have to either call in or go into a branch regarding this. Like you, I'm not surprised that the US Bank systems are a little squirly for a new launch. I'll report back when I have an update.
So I went ahead and gave US Bank a call and spoke with a representative. She pulled up my application and said that it was rejected automatically by the system because I am not an existing customer. She said that she did see my business account and that it was a glitch in their system that it didn't recognize that. She said she could put a note on the application and as for a human review, and that I would have a response within 24 hours.
So yes, it does look like a banker (in this case a phone rep from under-writing, but also any in-branch banker) can get the application submitted for review. It's also interesting that a business CC relationship is sufficient for them for consideration.
I'll report back when I get my result. Hope it works out!
Unfortunately not approved. I spoke with a rep who said the reason was too many recent accounts (he said 5 in the last 6 months). I had a feeling that could be a problem. I think I'll probably try again after gardening for about 6 months. Honestly, my plan was to be in the garden but this new card was too enticing.
