Yesterday after work, I got a call on my home phone from US Bank. No one ever calls me on my home phone unless its some telemarketer.
The call was from US Bank, whom I have my car loan through, calling to get me to apply for one of their credit cards which they had sent me a mailer for last month. The CSR was very nice and thorough. I declined. That was the first time I've ever gotten a call to apply for a CC. I've gotten lots of letters in the mail, but never a call that I could recall.
I'll have to use it to my advantage and see what more they can offer me. 0% for 19 months for transfers/purchases, but a terrible 15.99% APR later. But they do offer generous limits if approved. But I told him no way, the interest was too high. Maybe later.
Do you guys and gals get these types of calls?
Generous for a first CC with us bank is 5k
... They are ultra conservative until you get in their good graces with history with them

No.
US Bank gave me my very first unsecured credit card with a $8500 limit after having a secured card for 1 year. And after 2.5 months and 2 more credit cards, they gave me a second US Bank card with $6500 limit.

You have 1 year of history with them with the secured card.

Yes.
I have a mortgage from 2007 through US Bank. They called me in 2009 to give me a 1% rewards card. Sure, I'll take that. I had about $100k of open balances at the time. Used it heavily, but carried balances of $5k to $6k.
In 2013, they called me again and gave me the Cash+ over the phone. I didn't really understand the value of the card, and didn't really get organized with how to use some of the 5% categories until about a year ago.
I recently PC'd the first card from CashRewards to Cash+, so I now have two Cash+ cards. Both cards send me regular BT offers at 3% fee and 2.99% APR.
5K credit line is a lot to some people.

Oh I agree.. Us Banks definition of generous is different that other lenders definition of generous CL's. US Bank think 1-5k is generous is all I am saying and most people are lucky to get a 5k line FIRST us bank CC at that amount, usually you have to earn their trust is all I was stating and build a relationship. 5k is alot of money for alot of people including myself, was just trying to make a statement is all.
They might be the tightest UW and limits of the big lenders being Bofa, Chase, Cap1, Amex, Citi and WF's. Not including the smaller ones.
