Officially closed on the new home 2 weeks ago so I took a plunge and app'd for a few places before it gets reported.
Joined Unify FCU, membership got approved and applied for their CC thinking I was good. Got an email saying they'll notify me if they needed anymore information but almost a week passes so I decided to call them up to check the status.
Apparently I had been denied due to "excessive inquiries" 10 inq on EX. And the next reason was "Garnishment/Foreclosure". This is a first I've heard as I got through the mortgage process (first time home buyer) and I just app'd for Chase Amazon Visa Signature who double pulled EQ and EX and was approved for $2.8k.
I doubled checked my EX report and there is no public record listed same with TU/EQ and I asked where did they pull that info from but was told they didn't know and to wait for the letter 🙄.
Not sure how to go about a recon since there isn't much posted about Unify FCU.
DP
EX8 - 683
EX2 - 685
0% UTIL but there's a small $36 balance reporting.
Was there a known garnishment/foreclosure within the past 10-15 years?
@FinStar I've never had a garnishment and never foreclosed on a home as I've never purchased one until May 28th that hasn't started reporting yet. 15 years ago I was underage and unable to do anything credit-wise, lol.
@Studio90x do you know if they pulled additional CR from one of the lesser known agencies like Sage steam or Clarity?
If you've never had foreclosure/garnishment, there could be erroneous reporting somewhere.
Also, did you happen to take a payday loan or something like that in the past seven years?
@RemediosI did ask which CR they pulled but the rep couldn't see that information and told me to wait for the letter. I do see that they pulled only EX. Now that I've searched up those 2 CRs that you mentioned I see that Clarity is part of EX so that could be where they got that detail from.
I do recall a payday loan in which my boyfriend at the time screwed me over and chose not to pay it back and I didn't have the means to pay it back at that time. I haven't gotten any collection letters or contacted by phone in regard to the non-payment. Thank you for that note!
I'm getting ready to submit a request to both Sage Stream and Clarity for a copy of my report. I haven't been on the forums in quite some time so I did not know of these other CR that they may use in junction to the 3 CBs.
Check those two and see if it shows anywhere.
Did he take payday loan in your name (or did you take it for him)?
While you're at it also pull a copy of your Lexis Nexis consumer report as they're a data source for even the minor CRAs (and they now own SageStream).
I had stupidly took it out for him when he was in a bind and we had an argument which resulted in him not giving me the funds to pay it back.
Luckily, my fiancé has been very helpful in assisting me clear up everything on my reports in preparation of our new home but this was overlooked as it wasn't reported to the 3 CBs and our mortgage broker hadn't said anything so I thought I was in the clear to start applying for credit products.

Well, you have to find out what the current status is because of the wording.
In order to attempt garnishment, they would have had to go through court.
They are required to serve you, but there are ways around that (for them), or it might have been "served" at the old address
Also, they might have attempted to garnish wages but if they had incorrect employment info (job change afterwards), they would have been unsuccessful, but they can attempt later, either via wage garnishment or bank account levy if they can trace your current banking info.

Interesting. I'm not sure how to go about obtaining this information until I get the copy of my CR from either LexisNexis (Sage Stream) or Clarity. I looked in the public records from the county I used to live in where this happened and only see a traffic citation from a long time ago. Also looked in the current county where I live and I have no record. Looked up info by business name and I do see other court cases for garnishment on others but none with my name listed.
This happens to actually be year 5 since DoFD so I'm not sure if it's best to let sleeping dogs lie until after the SOL hits and investigate it at that time.
