I have another question ![]()
I was going to wait until the end of this year maybe Nov/Dec. to go for a Venture One card from Capital one.
I do not have a travel card, and I would like to get one, I have had a real itch for this one due to kicking myself for not app'ing for it when I had a pre-qual and took the QS card only at the time.
My first QS statement will cut on the 24th of this month, I had the card as of 6/23/15 but for whatever reason the first statement is for that date.
First due date is 8/21, it has seen heavy usage so far, but low balance as I pay off often.
I have not had anything on the pre-qual site after getting the QS. Is it too soon for me to try for the Venture?
If not too soon, are my chances worse than if I had did it back then if anyone has a clue on that?
Scores in sig are current, TU is not yet reporting Discover, and none are reporting the QS as I have not even had a statement yet.
All cards I have are from this year, starting in May. Inq's are EQ=6 EX=2 TU=2, I have a freeze on EQ at this time.
I was thinking if I could get this, I am done for a long time and all these INQ's will fall off around the same time.
Thanks for any input that may help me decide.
UPDATE:
I do appreciate all the replies I received here, and understand the best/smartest option being the Venture.
But as I do not plan on spending more than 2-3k in the next few months I went for the Venture One.
I was looking for:
Hope of a higher CL to help my util
Travel rewards that I can let add up over the next few years.
No AF
So after my first QS statement cut I was getting pre-quals again.
After seeing some nice approvals recently I went for it, had Venture/Venture One/QuickSilver.
I applied for the Venture One and received a SL of 10,000 / 0%, then 16.9% after one year Visa Signature.
This will not be my go to card, my Discover and QS will be those for now.
But I plan to put enough on it to keep it active, maybe 3-4 hundred a month.
So I am very happy now, I will stay in the garden until spring/summer of 2016 and take care of what I have.
I figure around that time I can start asking for APR reductions, and I won't ask for any CLI's, I will just take what they give me.
Thanks again everyone here that has tried to help me, very much appreciated.
Don't waste a HP (actually 3) on a Venture One. It offers you nothing over your Quicksilver.
The Venture One is 1.25%, redeemable for travel only. Your QS is 1.5% pure cash redeemable for anything. Doesn't take much thinking to determine which is better. The Venture cards are "travel cards" in marketing only. As far as when to app, always stick to your gut. If you think you should wait til Nov/Dec, you're probably right and would end up with a better approval. But I would still pick a better card to use my HPs on as the Venture One is useless IMO.
After my first statement cut and posted then the Venture card showed up on prequal. The Venture One also showed up, but I'm not one to carry balances so I took Venture card. 2x travel points and they were very quick to post the 40k bonus points. I use the card heavily and have racked up so many points I've purchased 4 round trip tickets.

What are your scores? On a phone can't see them.
FICO's (07-17-15) TU: 699 EX: 701 EQ: 681
A bit of a mix on answers, but it seems the majority thinks I am better off waiting.

Thanks for pointing that out, I do like the QS, I got my 100.00 bonus in the first 2 weeks
.
But I was looking also at the higher credit lines they seem to offer to help my Util also, so I am/was on the fence right now.
I got the Venture One about 2 weeks after I was approved for the QS. It didn't show up on prequal site, I just cold apped.
fomuscles,
That was what I was thinking of doing as I am not getting any pre-quals now with them.
But so far the answers I have received tell me to hold off a bit, maybe my CL's will grow.
I do not have much hope for Barclay to grow from what I have read here, but maybe CapOne and Discover might.
I really wanted 10,000-15,000 in credit, that would be best for my spending and keeping my Util under 10% without making 4-6 payments a month on the cards
.
I also was thinking a card aimed at travel would be good to have, but I now see that a cash back card can be just as good.
Right now I am still fighting with it, I need to get my mind on other things or I will end up going for it ![]()
Thanks everyone, I do always appreciate the help.
