So about a month ago I decided to app for a Walmart card because I'd read here and elsewhere that it was a good grower and I do shop there from time to time so I figured it would be a good card to have. I apply at the cashier and we go through the process and she says, 'Oh something happened to my machine it didn't go through, would you mind going to customer service?', I said sure and went to customer service. They said, 'Oh it says you have to call the number and confirm some info'. No problem, I recently moved so I'm sure it's about that. I call the number and verify some info and the woman says I can't be approved but it's because of the info not matching but I was free to apply again at a later date. I just think to myself, well whatever, and move on.
About a week and a half later I notice no inquiries show up on any of my reports. So I figure I'll call in and see what they say. The guy says I can't see any app for you sir, it must not have been processed correctly, do you want to apply again? He assures me that there was no app in their system. He transfers me and I apply. Again they confirm some info. Then the girl says, 'Sorry sir, we can't approve you at this time. It appears you've already applied and been denied.' Uhhh whaaaa? 'Sorry I can't tell you over the phone but we'll be sending a letter'. Oh boy. Fine, I say, and move on.
Later that week I'm in Sam's Club. The girl mentions that if I apply for a Sam's card I can get $40 off my first purchase. Well, I do need an office chair, so I figure why not. Sam's approves me on spot. I get my office chair, and I'm happy. Today, the MyFico app on my phone says I have a new inquiry. Hmm, that's weird, I app'd for Sams two weeks ago and already saw the inquiry. The app says the inquiry is from Walmart and it's dated today. Whaaaa? So I call the phone # and the automated system comes on and says it's matched my phone # with my credit card account. What credit card Walmart, you turned me down?! I get to a rep, who informs me I was approved on the 10th for a Walmart card. Huh? I didn't even apply on the 10th for a Walmart card? 'Well sir, you were issued a credit card on the 10th. Your card hasn't been sent yet, but will probably be sent Monday and you should see it in 7-10 business days after that'. But didn't you just say they approved me on the 10th? Why would they wait a week to issue the card? 'Blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda, you'll see it 7-10 business days from Monday'.
I am absolutely baffled at this process. I app'd 4 weeks ago, was denied, then 3 weeks ago told I didn't app but no just kidding, you did, then 2 weeks later I was approved, but the inquiry didn't show up until today. It's a measly $400 line and I have cards with $2000 lines, so I'm tempted to tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine, but the inquiry is already there so I guess I might as well just stick it in a drawer.
