Ok, so a little back story, July 13, when the Autograph card came out - I got denied - reason- too many new accounts In the last 6 months.
Today I get a "Pre selected to apply" mailer with a Solid 0% for 15 months and Solid XX.99% -
I am so confused - why deny me and send me a pre select ?
what is a Wells Fargo Pre Select ? Is this a solid approval?

Were you denied for the Autograph, or the Active Cash? If the denial was for the Autograph, and the mailer is for the Active Cash, that makes sense. And if so, apparently you must meet the pre-selection screening criteria for the tier level card that is the Active Cash (maybe they'll overlook the #of new accts). Lower SUB, etc.
ETA:. Keep in mind, you might not have actually been denied for that reason 😉. They can see you hold a few competing cards to the Autograph, and the algorithm 'might' see you as a churner who wouldn't use the card much after earning SUB.
And yeah, the mailer could just be a marketing trap.
Not truly solid. Also, the screening process they used to decide who got pre-selections would have been completed before 7/13 so would not have factored in the fact that you very recently applied for credit.
Not to say that you're looking at a denial if you applied, but having a recent application is a large enough change in your credit profile from 6-8 weeks ago that the reliability of a pre-selection would be diminished.
@coldfusion Funny thing is, it states "apply by September 15th"

No, "Pre-Selected" is not a solid "approval" offer at all as that's a marketing term and not a "Pre-Approval" which is a big difference and much more solid.

That's because it is tied to a specific promotional period. The promo codes make it easier for them to track and evaluate how successful this specific promotion was. It's possible you may get an additional mailer in a few weeks associated with the same promotion, I know from experience that a number of other issuers will do that.
@PointsBonus wrote:@bigseegar even with a Solid APR ?
YES, that mailer is simply marketing sent to thousands of folks. You said it your first post here it even says:
"Today I get a "Pre selected to apply" mailer with a Solid 0% for 15 months and Solid XX.99% -"
Key word there "Pre-Selected to APPLY" It doesn't say you are "Pre-Approved" which is way different even with a given APR. That "solid APR" would be IF you are approved. Simply wording. I mean anyone can "apply" but there no guarantee of approval and with your recent denial from them for too many new accounts I'd bet the result on this app would also be the same. But if you're willing to use a HP to see by all means you do you and try. Personally I never app on "Pre-Selected" verbage.
@bigseegar Thank you - not going to waste a HP, especially on just a 2% card - so many other 2% options out there.
thank you
