I've been shopping for a card that rewards decently for travel expenses like dining and fuel, and I was recommended to look at this card. After doing some research this card matches all of the spend categories I expect to use the most, specifically the dining and fuel categories. However, I am unsure of my odds for approval. I do not have any accounts with them, and opening one is not feasible for me at this time as the closest branches are roughly an hour drive away from me.
In addition to the above, I've been looking at a third card to round out my credit profile to improve my odds for better cards later on. I am not planning on rushing out to apply for the card either, but knowing my chances will help with a plan. I have existing credit history with my oldest card being open for 3 years 7 months.
As of 8/6/2025:
EQ: 793 (prev. 672 on 7/6/25)
TU: 789 (prev. 671 on 7/6/25)
EX: 695 (prev. 672 on 7/6/25)
(EX score is only lower than the others since Synchrony hasn't updated the change in utilization, should match the others once that updates)
Current Cards:
Colony Bank Platinum Visa (Elan Financial Services), $1500
PayPal Credit (Synchrony), $2000
Scores in upper 700s should work. I have found wells to be sensitive to recent accounts, turned me down once for that reason. They also seem to favor existing customers. I have no idea how far their nearest branch is, but that didn't stop me from collecting a $325 sub from them for a new checking. Two months later they approved an active cash.
Here's their offer

Free money.
UPDATE: So it turns out I have been subject to the report update delays that have been recently occuring on EX, which is causing inaccurate balance to show only on the PPC account. After checking my credit reports with all 3 bureaus, it's clear that Synchrony sent the update to all 3 bureaus around the same time, but EX is being ridiculously slow.
For reference, balance was changed through payments on both cards on the same day (07/18/25), and EX hasn't reflected any changes to the PPC balance since 06/30/25, confirmed with checking my most recent credit report from EX. I filed a dispute with EX and am currently waiting to hear back.
EDIT: To double check what I suspect was happening, I contacted Synchrony and they sent updates to EX, EQ, and TU simultaneously. This confirmed my initial suspicions.
You’re in a strong position right now with those scores (EQ 793; TU 789; EX 695 once it updates). Wells Fargo is generally more conservative; but with your utilization corrected and your scores rebounded that much in just a month; your odds look solid.
The fact that your oldest account is 3 years 7 months isn’t a negative; lenders usually want to see at least 3 years of history; so you’re in that range. Not having an existing WF relationship might mean they’ll pull a bit tighter on your profile; but it’s not a dealbreaker. Plenty of people get approved without prior accounts.
If you’re not in a rush; I’d say wait until Experian catches up so all three reports are consistent; that will maximize your approval odds. Also; Wells is known to pull Experian heavily; so having that score in line with the others is worth it.
Overall; you should have good chances once EX updates. If you want to be extra safe; you can let your accounts age another couple of months and keep utilization low. That’ll also help if you’re planning for better cards later.
EX finally updated my score today, so now i'm in the upper 700s at all 3 bureaus! I'm probably going to wait around a week before applying, because I need to talk to my accountant about some income related questions before I apply.
Updated scores:
EQ: 793
TU: 789
EX: 767
Even though I was not pre qualified after checking on their site I decided to apply anyway with Wells. It was not a immediate approval but I did get a phone call from them to verify my income and after that I was approved despite having no relationship with them at all. My mom also had no relationship with them and she was instantly approved not long after I was....but she did pre qualify before applying. So having a relationship with them can be helpful but it is not at all required to gain approval for their products. With your scores you have excellent approval odds in my opinion. Best of luck to you @Techwiz45
Wells Fargo Autograph card, along with their Strata card is an excellent card to acquire. You could meet the welcome bonus, and walk away with $600 cash in hand. $1200 if using both P1 and P2's credit.
Fortunately, if you use the transfer program, and like hotel stays, you can double 1:2 point rewards into the choice hotels line. Essentially earning 120k points per card holder, upwards of 240k points for both a P1 and P2 application. Depending on where you travel, there are excellent locations that can amplify this value. It only requires you to look. So essentially, you can earn double, or triple value, for these cards, transfered into their partnership programs, if these programs work towards your future travel plans. Not top of the line, but perhaps more value depending on hotspot location, where lower lines tend to upscale due to the competition in that location.
