Wells Fargo Reflect CLI - Declined

(Not a complaint, just offering a data point.)

Last October I got a WF Reflect card with a $20k credit limit.  0% interest until August 2026.

When I have a 0% card, I pay the minimum until the 0% time ends and then I pay it off.

So approaching the credit limit, I asked for a $10k increase.  (The amount is probably immaterial to the result).

Was told I'd get a letter in 7-10 days.  That same day they generated the denial letter.

Reasons:

Amounts owed on WF credit card too high relative to limit (99%)

Payment too low relative to balance (Minimum 1% of balance)

Amount owed on credit cards high relative to credit limit (one other at 76%, another at 50%.  Both 0% interest deals.  Overall utilization is 17%)

Perhaps things would have been different if I hadn't waited until I got to 99%.  But the card has served its purpose:  Interest-free loan from Wells Fargo for more than a year.  I'll probably use it occasionally to keep near the limit until the value of 0% falls below the value of a 2% rebate on an awards card...and then to the sock drawer.

I would agree with your hypothesis.  They don't have a track record or know that you'll be paying this off in month 11 so maxing out a card then asking for a CLI (despite a BT offer) is enough for WF to tell you no unfortunately
