I read a lot about applicants being initially denied and then approved during a reconsideration phone call. The only time I have attempted this was not successful. I was at a loss for words when I talked to the representative. What should I point out during these calls? Should I explain my baddies. Or highlight my positive accounts? Or emphasize my income? What did you say that worked?
well currently until you get into the mid 600's may will be decline and can't really recon under 600's for the most part.

Yes I know this but I still want to know what folks are saying during these calls. I want to be educated.
depends what creditor and what the issue is.
Barclay is probably easiest they already know why you are calling and will ask the questions.
just don't be intimidated and answer with confidence!
there job is to talk to you and debate with you what happened in the past is in the past and why they should lend to you now... so be firm and confident so that you sound in control of your money and credit and past is past!
When you call and ask for a reconsideration, the analysts will most likely bring up whatever baddies you have on your report. Try to explain what happened to cause them and that you are on the path to right your wrongs. Explain how you want to be able to prove yourself as a worthy candidate to be a cardholder of their bank. Sometimes your efforts will be fruitless, but you can try again as there is no harm in trying. I've had an analyst explain to me what I can do to try to get in with them iiin the future.
