What should I apply for with a 584 score?

I know, it's very low. But I'm working on it. It was 514 three weeks ago, and i have paid no money out. All medical bills. Im new at this.

Anyway i have no credit cards. All i have is a car loan which im 100% on time, actually way ahead of time. I did apply and got approved for a capital one secured credit card because i read it was a good card for someone in my current position. I should get it in the mail soon. I did the same with a first premier credit card with some insane rates and fees, but called in this morning to cancel it after my credit score jumped up another 28pts and it looked like they were no longer needed.

What should I apply for at this poitn with 584 score? Im on a roll and really wouldn't want to get declined right now. Credit card, gas card, store card? Will anyone likely approve me? Thanks alot.

CAP ONE  secure cards are a good way to build your score, without any revolving debt you are taking a hit just for that... Get one and keep the balance above 0 and lower than 10% of the limit

Nothing unsecured. Your best bet is secured and work it for 6 months-1 year. Takes time.

A secured card from SDFCU is a good option no credit check and it reports to all the credit bureau's. The only down side it doesn't unsecure.

You might have a shot at some of the easier "shopping cart trick" cards, like VS.   However, I think your efforts would be better spent on addressing the baddies.   I highly recommend sharing more about your credit profile in the "Rebuilding" forum.   It helped me out a lot!

1 additional inquiry isn't going to hurt you now if you stop doing it Smiley Happy

DFCU secured credit card as noted by coldnmn above is a great way to get a card and get a free credit score.

Other cards:

NFCU Secured if you're military

Bank of America and US Bank both have secured cards...but as they are prime lenders I don't know how hard it is to get.  I got mine's easly with a 620 score but I can't compare with a 584.  US Bank has a secured card with Harley Davidson with no annual fee.

Don't bother trying to get an "unsecured" card with 584 score, probably not happening.

Additionally, you can do the Shopping Cart Trick to get some soft pulls to get store cards and add tradelines.

And since you're waiting, you might as well add a Fingerhut account too...easy to get and counts as another tradeline useful 6 months from now.  Their stuff is expensive so don't crazy buying.

You'll then have to sit out the next 6-9 months for your accounts to grow and post positive stuff.

Re: What should I apply for with a 584 score?

Maybe even fingerhut! Nobody actually wants a fingerhut card.. however, they are one of the easiest cards to obtain! Also, I believe creditone has a prequalifier on their website.. Maybe try that too?
