Which credit card(s) should my DH apply for?

I pulled his scores through myfico on 06/02/15 and he has the following:

EQ 664 TU 653 EX 697

His average age of accounts is 2 years and has had a capital one $200 since June 2014 with no baddies.

He also has no collections but is listed as an authorized user for two of my accounts (a charged off Target card and a capital one with some baddies)

He had been getting a lot of pre-approvals from Chase so we applied for the Chase Slate on 05/22 and was approved for $5K and then applied for the Chase Freedom on 5/29 and was approved for $3.5K. We also have an auto loan that started in April 2014 with no baddies.

Would it be good to apply for one or two more cards? If so, what should he apply for?

Our end game is to apply for a mortage ... hopefully within the next 6-9 months.

If you need any other information, just let me know.

Thanks so much! These forums are invaluable!

Get that charged off Target card off his bureaus via dispute since he was an au.

I would app for the BBVA Compass NBA card now. They run EX and his score is decent there.

Try Am Ex Everyday and if approved the PRG.

Swampy99,

Thanks! Quick question ... I noticed the American Express PRG has an annual fee of $195 compared to $0 annual fee for the American Express Everyday ... what would be the beneift of paying the $195 annual fee for the PRG card (versus no annual fee with the other card).

Great idea about disputing! I am guessing the charge off is worse than potentially loosing some credit length?

Target AU 07/2007 - Charge Off

Capital One AU 06/2008 - (open - currently paying as agreed with 7 lates (30-90 days))

Capital One 05/2014 (open - paying as agreed)

Auto Loan 04/2014 (open - paying as agreed)

Auto Loan 01/2012 (closed - paid as agreed)

Auto Loan 09/2011 (closed - paid as agreed)

The annual fee on the PRG kicks in after one year plus now you get 50,000 bonus points after spending $1000.45,000 points bought the DW a round trip ticket from MSP to PHX and if you use the card for stuff you normally pay cash for,  the rewards will outweigh the AF.

The DW got the PRG then several minutes later got the ED.

If you want a revolving card instead of a PIF card, I would go for the ED.

I'd forget adding more cards and work to goodwill that charge off from his reports. If you're looking for a mortgage as soon as 6 months, the added inquiries may wind up making a difference.

Re: Which credit card(s) should my DH apply for?

Considering his EX is his best, and it's near 700, I'd suggest any of the Amex cards. The ED/PRG combo is what I'm putting all my spend on right now for points (got the 50K PRG bonus, which may be worth it for you -- 50k MR points w/ $1k spend. It's still very much alive, though may require an incognito visit to americanexpress.com).

If my spend/income don't change, I will more than likely cancel the PRG before the AF hits.
