After abandonning my post in the garden and stumbling into a few apps, temptation still rest heavily at hand..
Previously approved for 2 USAA revolvers at 13k ea along with the chase amazon VS at 5k I decided there was still some type of feel in regards to my closed capone acct prior to the restructuring of their credit line combination policies.
I opt to check their pre qual site to see how I would fair..
Low and behold, prequal for QS SV and Venture.
After reading numerous accounts of successful application from fellow ficofam members, and basing my judgement on the confidences of the day I decide WTH , leggo.
I try the QSVS first...approved! 3k min...sigh 6 months til I can get the cli I've been seeking on my original QS
I've yet to lose faith, there's still hope, I can get the 5k min or better from the Venture and have a 10k line between the prospective 3 cards in six months!...
..DENIED..
CapOne seems to be my most restrictive lender, and I don't know why? My original QS is my second eldest line, yet the CL is resistant to improve. 2k for life, and the CLI they offer me is but 150.
All accounts with other major lenders are from 8-14k with the exception of the amazon visa I received today. In six months I'll be able to combine my limits and my Capone will finally improve its limit and remained tied for my lowest limit .
Why CapOne!?
Was it worth it?
What Do?
The USAA card was intended to replace my current capone..I ended up applying for the second because I accidently submitted for the wrong card.
Amazon was an impulsive way to get $80 worth of free merchandise being that amazon is my most frequented retailer.
Any insight is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance for reading.
Congratulations on the USAA cards, that's a lot of new limits there.
What is your usage pattern on the Capital One cards? Are you restricting usage trying to keep utilization low? Do you take the Capital One $150 SP CLI or you are looking for something better?
What are your FICO scores?
IF YOU WANT A CLI WITH CAPITAL ONE You need to use it as a debit card and make payments everyday on it. I run like 840 bucks worth of transactions a months and like 900 bucks worth of payments in one months.
The Capital One prequalifier, while fairly accurate, is not a guarantee. You were qualified for the Quicksilver OR the Venture, not AND.
It it also sounds like you're not actually using the card enough if you're not getting decent CLI's on it.
Lots of usage and large payments will usually result in decent CLI's. However, I seem to be the exception to that rule, as my last CLI's were the opposite: I got a huge increase on the card I hardly ever use, and a tiny increase on the one I use religiously.
After you were approved for the QS, did you hit the pre-qual site again before applying for the Venture?

Interesting question! That's how I did mine.
Yea, me too and I was approved for both, selecting the Venture Card first and back through the pre-approval, then choosing the QS. (pulled all 3 CRs once)
was the beginning of a great weekend!

Yes I believe that is the proper way to do it. App for the harder card (Venture) first than the easier one (QS). On another thread someone did the same with a Freedom/Slate, and apped for the easier one first and got denied on the second app for the harder one.
myFICO lesson #1 = App for the more desired and harder to get card first.
