Chase did this to me.
I make 7 times what my mother in law makes and have a slightly higher score with way less baddies.
I was declined.
she received a $1500 cc.
She ran it up to $900 and can barely pay $20 over min payment.
Unreal
Wow... Your mother in-law should not be encouraged to get cards then. These credit card companies sometimes don't make sense in their approvals..

Yes I agree.
She wanted to fill out the form to "see" if she would qualify. It said she would be getting a letter in the mail. So I didn't think anything of it.
I'm away for my job and she calls me saying she was approved for a card. I tell her to keep it for emergencies. She then racks it up!
I don't like getting into grown people's business but when we and her other son are helping her out financially. This sorta tee's me off.
No one would've known the bill was that high if her other son hadn't of seen the statement because she was saying she only charged a few bucks.
@Anonymous,
I hear you. That will drive me insane too.. Ughhh, just ridiculous.

Not score alone
i have three revolving lines plus 3 others as AU with Cap One. She is AU on 4 cap one cards and that is it. CapOne gace me a denial because of too many cards. I called EO to reeconsider and am pending those results
Why surprised OP? CapOne's lending practices are random at best.
Its just odd, i cant believe she qualified for QS and platinum unsecured even tho theyre low balances

there is money to be made from bad credit, and/or profits to hide via supplying people with credit.
If they give out a $300 card, the person uses it, charges up $290, pays the minimum, they make 25% interest, if they are ever late, start kicking in the fee's possibly higher interest rates, if they keep the card in good standing for a year, they made 25% return on thier money, plus swipe fees. if they hit the person with a late fee or 2, they can easily make 75% or more off the person, then later it gets charged off, actual loss is about 25% or $75 but they will write off $300, plus 5 or 6 late fees, interest at maximum rate, plus who knows how many more fees over time... so they could potentially earn $1000 in writeoffs for a $75 dollar actual loss. So they can now have $1000 less to pay taxes on.
who knows what else they are using to decide credit on, age, sex, how long credit has been open, types of baddies. Modern credit scores see medical collections as much less than others.
