Why is NFCU so coveted here?

Hi folks.

I keep seeing NFCU talked about here. Why is it so popular? Low APR? High limits?

The rewards scheme doesn't seem out of the ordinary.

Just curios

Re: Why is NFCU so coveted here?

NFCU generally gives great initial CLs as well as pretty nice rates on auto loans. Plus, a lot of people use Navcheck, their line of credit. I have had a few auto loans through them and they are very easy to work with. However, I have not found anyone that can touch DCU in regards to auto loans.

My sister joined NFCU with a score of approximately 640ish and they offered her her first unsecured CC with an initial CL of $1,500.

Basically, they are great for building, rebuilding, and fantastic CLs.

interesting.  I can see the benefit of the overall banking relationship, car loan, mortgage, etc.

Sounds like a great prize.

Re: Why is NFCU so coveted here?

I got lucky in regards to joining NFCU. I never joined when I was in the Army and when I was out they would not let me in, even though I am a veteran with an honorable discharge. However, when I became a private contractor and traveled to Afghanistan for a couple of years, I was eligible again. I promptly joined and have since been very happy with them.

They are pretty good for Credit cards. Great CL's and lower APR's than most. Rewards are instant instead of waiting for billing cycles or end once annual payout.
What makes them so coveted, as other mentioned, is the entire package. The Navcheck is good as well as their home/auto loans. Customer service is possibly the best.

Re: Why is NFCU so coveted here?

I can't answer for everybody else, but for me, NFCU was attractive since they historically approve folks for high credit lines with low APRs.

In my own case, they didn't disappoint... I still have one six-year old CO, and they still approved me for $15.3k at 10.99%, both my highest credit line and lowest APR by a significant margin.  I don't use the card often, but if I ever need to carry a balance I can do so without taking a 'bath' in interest charges.

I've never had to contact them, but from what I've heard they are a pleasure to deal with, which means a lot to me as well.
