Hello all! My wife is in need of some dental procedures and has decided she wants to apply for Care Credit. Since our vet also takes it she thinks it would be a good idea. A few quick questions...
when applying does it matter if you indicate a specific doctor or just pick a general field since it offers a choice? Will one lead to a better / higher approval?
Who should she call to recon the initial limit if it too low or if declined? Is there a backdoor number or just call the number on the card? Is a credit limit recon an additional HP?
Thanks!!

It doesn't matter really what doctor you put down and probably won't lead to a higher approval as it depends on the profile.
You can call for a recon afterwards, usually the day after. If you wait any longer it will be an HP.

+1
I'll add that when you apply, when it asks for the amount of the procedure/credit line you'd like, aim high.
I needed around $3k, so I put $10k... and was approved for $8k. I'll also add that after submitting the application if it gives you a reference number and instructs you to call a toll free number, be sure do to do - that's not necessarily a bad thing. They had me call in, and sent a code via text message to my cellphone... a minute or two after I confirmed the code, I was approved. They'll even give you the account number verbally over the phone with your credit limit so you can use it right away (the only card that's ever done that for me).
Good luck!
I agree I would ask for $10k or if file supports ask for $20k... then even if it's countered, still call tomorrow through automated phone system and ask for $10k or $20k again and usually it will give you a little more.
General field works... She can also 'request' the amount she would like to be approved for (approx. amount of procedure) above and beyond what she thinks the procedure will actually cost. Recon without an additional HP is within the 48 hour period. Goodluck! Be sure to come back and let us know how it goes
Shoot for the stars with the limit. Borderline scores can open joint account. Only issue is any future CLI's essentially are TWO hp's instead of one (1 for each person).... don't think its possible to split a care credit joint account. Rep basically said, so long as all payments were on time and scores were good (WHATEVER that means) they would most likely match the previous limit on new account.
Got me thinking next time I go for a CLI, I may as well close and reopen. Opened april 2013.

No it doesn't matter about specifying a particular doctor.
Be wary of asking for increases because they always take hard pulls.
I called once and got a big CLI (with the hard pull but it was worth it); my recollection is I called customer service.
I was approved in August for $2300. Didn't use it or request CLI. Had a $900 vet bill on Saturday, so yesterday I called the automated line, asked for $10k, I thought I heard her say I was approved for $3700, I checked my account and it was an additional $3700 bringing it up to $6000. I will take advantage of the 0% for 6 months, which will be okay on $6000. Hoping there won't be much additional vet charges this month, sudden very sick 9 yr. old dog, but his chances are good, worth the $900.
And, it was an HP on TU. If you have TU frozen, it's a flat denial. They don't tell you they need to pull and please thaw, so thaw first.
