Your Most Unlikely Approval Stories

I can't be the only who gets carried away and apps for cards I shouldn't, whether due to scores, INQs, income, whatever... Most times under these circumstances, things go as expected (denied), but every so often we get an approval we don't expect. So let's hear about those successes! Also, did you have to recon for the decision? Do/did you feel any sense of loyalty to the institution for "taking a chance on you"?

Re: Your Most Unlikely Approval Stories

App'ed for Capital One QS, and was asked to send income verification, etc, so I just brushed it off. A month later, app'ed again, and got instant approval. LMAO. I know it's like 6 inquiries total, but life moves on. Smiley Very Happy

Re: Your Most Unlikely Approval Stories

I have 3 Smiley Happy

Chase Freedom (June 2014) - I was receieving offers like crazy for this one and the slate and decided to go for freedom since it was a card i wanted and i needed to finance a new bed anyways. I was a little surprised they gave me a starting $2000 limit and that i was approved. Like i guess i underestimate myself when i have 12 inqs across all 3 bureaus due to car shopping. The INQs are over a year old so that probably helped.

Discover (July 2014) - I was also shocked by this one, i decided to BT all my non use cards into 1 to make things easier. I was skeptical only because last year when i applied i got denied for 1 reason which confused me and that was too high of student loans. At the time it was 15k in student loans so i was a little confused. Also very shocked since they gave me my highest initial limit of $4000

CSP (August 2014) - Very shocked on this one. Like i was contemplating the whole day at work, my score was 680's across and the 2 new accounts, 12 inqs or so across. My BF was with me and covered my eyes and i said it was denied wasnt it? I started panicking and he said actually it says approved. Like i literally started screaming with excitement it was that exciting Smiley Embarassed

Re: Your Most Unlikely Approval Stories

My most recent Approval......

My revolving credit history is 2 months old and only includes 2 secured cards both with $300 credit limits.

Applied for Huntington Voice last week....... Approved for $5k.  I do most of my banking with them except savings accounts. So yeah I think I'll stay loyal to them far into the future.

Re: Your Most Unlikely Approval Stories

Definitely my most recent one. The US Bank flexperks card in my sig was very unexpected. It was at the end of a long, large app spree. I had 21 inq's when I applied. 9 accounts opened in the previous 6 weeks!! I was literally on the phone with an analyst as the computer denied each possible scenario. She was very nice and actually laughed with me about all the new accounts, but said there was no way around it. Well, almost a month later a letter came from US Bank with a Select rewards Visa: $2,500 limit!! WTH?!?? So happy about that one.

MSUFCU $5K| CASECU $2K| Discover it $1.5K| QuicksilverOne $2.5K(x2)| Playstation Visa $750| US Bank Flexperks Select $2.5K| Barclay Rewards $2.5K| Home Depot $2.7K| Best Buy $1.5K| Walmart $1.3K| Amazon $2.7K| PayPalSC $800| Target $800

Re: Your Most Unlikely Approval Stories

Mine would have to be my most recent. My scores are just in the 630s and I hadn't had any luck  getting a company to take a chance on me other than Capital One. So, I decided to apply for Citi Simplicity figuring I would be declined for sure. I am pretty sure my jaw dropped when the screen said approved.

Re: Your Most Unlikely Approval Stories

I think my other big surprise was being able to get the ED (a card I had wanted originally) and NPSL cards like two months after I got my first Amex along with a CLI on my first one as well on one HP. Strange how they didn't give me the full 3x CLI on my Delta card but combined with my ED card, I have a total CL of 6.3 K with Amex, not counting what I can charge onto my Green card so that for me more than makes up for it. Now I'm gonna wait until I get an offer to upgrade my Green to a PRG or just app for it in January for backdating purposes so I can close the Green card eventually.
