Re: navy federal for first card?

If you apply for a unsecured card and are denied they usually send a letter stating if you're interested in a secured card and talk about a $500 deposit. So it can't hurt Smiley Happy

Yes she was approved for $1500. Zero credit file. 20 years old with a decent job after 2 years of college. Was denied recently from capital one and her regional bank that she deposits her money into. No more apps for now. She's going to put about $500 of general spend a month on it and then pif. Hopefully navy will hook her up with a used car loan in 6 months after some responsible use.

May as well have her keep PenFed on the radar as well. If she does it right those score are going to be perfect for a house when she is ready.

Yes that's a good idea. She's a full usaa member also so there's another good option for her.

If she's in with USAA I would definitely recommend them; they are known to be generous with young people as well.  Smiley Wink

Full disclosure:  I'm very partial to USAA because they were the first lender to give me a 'regular' credit line during my rebuilding stage.  There are lenders with products that are more 'flashy' but USAA is solid as a rock.  (Their cards also have good perks if you have checking with them, i.e. no-fee overdraft protection and no-fee cash advances).
