navy federal question

UPDATE: Looks like they approved her for the cash rewards visa with a $500 limit. So now what im wondering is, would she have a good chance of being approved for a second card if i had her apply? Or best to wait a few months? Also, is it worth having her add me as an AU to build my payment history faster? Or will it not really matter since I have 3 cards already? Thanks

So my girlfriend has been an nfcu member for like 5 years and she currently has no credit score. The only thing on her credit report are 2 collections from a few years ago and they are both paid off, one was for $200 one was for $50. Im trying to get her approved for a card somehwre but cap1 said no pre approved offers at this time and she doesnt want to do a secured. I told her to try and app with navy since her account has always been in good standing so she applied this morning and got the 3-5 day review message. i had her send them a secure message after that.

Navy Federal Response 08/05/2015 :

Thank you for your interest in a Navy Federal credit card account.  Our records indicate that a credit card application has been submitted, and is currently under review.  Your application has been noted with information provided in your message. The Credit Card Lending Team will notify you in writing of its decision within approximately seven to ten days.  If we can be of any further assistance, please let us know.

Your Message 08/05/2015 : I recently applied for a credit card and recived a 3-5 day meassage and I hope you will reconsider my application. I have been a Navy Federal member for over 5 years and my accounts have always been in good standing and I would Iike a chance to begin to build my credit. Thank you for your consideration.

So does this mean shes most likely going to be declined? Should I have her just call them over the phone to try and recon?

That's a tough one.  If she is declined, I would have her recon for even a small limit card.  If she has no credit score or actual credit, it may be a tough sell since NFCU has only the two collections (albeit paid) to go by.  She could call NFCU to see if a decision has been made in stead of waiting.  I'll let others chime in who may be more aware.

Given her thin credit profile - which only seems to include two collections accounts - I think your best bet is to wait this out first. Frankly, I think it was a little aggressive to immediately follow up with them before even ONE day. Just let it play out and go from there. NFCU is pretty generous.

Re: navy federal question

well they should approve you for something. they run your credit to be a member and if your credit is too bad they won't grant it in some cases. so even if it's secured just do that for a year and move from there. you have to start somewhere, especially with two negatives. pride isn't considered in credit decisions. i did my share of secured when i didn't have credit. time time time.... that's all it is my friend.

Re: navy federal question

I have to agree with what has been said above.  If credit is not granted and you recon and still nothing, then I would go ahead and get a secured card with them.  As said above the only thing they are working with is collections so it's hard to be picky with that.  But if you have to go secured she is lucky to have a chance with nfcu.  Building her credit with them will be very good for her in the future.

Re: navy federal question

Honestly I was under the impression that the whole 3-5 day message meant it was declined. Guess we will just have to wait and see what they say. Thanks everybody for the input

Re: navy federal question

not always. sometimes they have a credit analyst review your info. heck, anything is better than an instant decline. at least you know a person is manually looking at your data and making an informed decision based on their expertise and the credit information

Re: navy federal question

I would not apply for a 2nd NFCU card, looks like she just got in.  Wait awhile for a 2nd NFCU

Re: navy federal question

Definitely wait considering she just barely got in with 1st card. They need to see some history on this card and then she can try a cli.
