Thanks for all the input!! Unfortunately I haven't applied for it yet. I decided to wait a little bit because I won't be making the large purchase till mid September now.

My plan was to apply for the bcp to get the 250 for 1000 spend and then in a year try and downgrade the card to the bce. I know I won't put enough through the card to justify the fee but the 250 back would be really nice. Is this a reasonable plan?

Good for you.. Do it when ever you feel it is the best moment for you.

That's the way to go given that the AF is waived for the first year.

 

You should be fine. Good luck to you when the time comes and let us now come September.
