should I apply for a kohl's charge card?

It offers some benefits such as free shipping and at times 30% off, but unsure if they send targeted deals to its card holders frequently or worth the new account and hard pull. Hmm. For those who have the card, was it worth it to you? thanks!

Re: should I apply for a kohl's charge card?

Hello,

The card has definitely been worth the hard pull to me. The savings add up. I’m purchasing for a 7-year old girl and so far she’s happy with the clothing.

If you get the card after a few months you will know when to get the most for your money. I don’t purchase unless she needs something. Not just because there’s a sale.

Be careful if you return something. Probably better to exchange it. You can lose rewards or Kohl’s cash. I usually exchange.

Good luck if you get the card.

The card is worth it, although I was in a targeted market that offered 10% per purchase towards rewards and they discontinued that recently. I generally only shop sales or clearance right now since my kids are very young.

Re: should I apply for a kohl's charge card?

With three growing kids, this card is a no-brainer for me and I love it. Between kohl's cash, stackable discounts, and yes, targeted cardholder offers, you can save a pile. It's rare that my transaction savings don't equal at least twice my purchase cost when I go there.

case in point for example, getting a dress for my daughter for a dance at school - tag price $69.95, and out the door including tax, after kohl's cash, a fixed-dollar-off markdown in my kohl's wallet, the dress being on a sale, and an additional discount for cardholders, we were out the door under $15. This is a very common outcome.

I wouldn't hesitate to take the HP for it and it's one of the last cards I'd surrender or close.

Yes the Kohl’s Card is worth it. It’s Cap1 but only one HP usually Ex or EQ. I recently joined Rakuten (which I like) and today I saw they have a link that’s for 35% off (from Kohl’s itself) with approval of a new Kohl’s Card. 35% off is only good for 1 purchase within 1 day of opening the card but they have 30% off if you use your Kohl’s Card offers all the time. If you join Rakuten (formally Ebates) and you purchase through their portal you can get an additional 3% back from Rakuten in the mail. Rakuten also has a $10 SUB when you sign up with them. I guess Rakuten only sends the checks quarterly but I signed up last month and they sent my first check to me last week. Free $19.65 that I got for the SUB with them plus cash back for my first purchase. Not too bad.

Should also mention Kohl’s Card doesn’t offer free shipping there’s a minimum spend for that and I think it’s $75. You can order online and pick up at the customer service desk for free if your order totals less than $75. Also should mention starting CL on this card is typically $300 or $700.

Re: should I apply for a kohl's charge card?

I have this card, and I’d say it’s definitely worth the HP.

As others have said, the savings usually are ridiculous, it feels like you just stole from them!

The only thing I wish they had was 0% deals.

The small SL didn’t bother me, as it has grown nicely (only recently because I didn’t know about the luv button before).

@Anonymous, what's your card profile like? People try to grab retail cards early in a build or rebuild, then they end up with unusable limits. Kohl's cards are poster children of low limits, and they're tough cards to CLI. It's best to apply when your profile is looking good.

Re: should I apply for a kohl's charge card?

I don’t think it matters too much what your profile looks like as long as you can get the card. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone start with more than a $1000 credit limit and it currently caps out at $3K. Don’t get a Kohl’s card for the spending limit. If you can’t stand having a low limit card then you should probably pass on Kohl’s. Get it if you’re gonna use the card. Just make sure you can pay in full or carry a tiny balance so you don’t wreck your utilization. The APR is so high you should really never carry a balance on it anyway. They have a prequal on their website that’s pretty solid but not 100%.

Also even if you only get a $300 limit that’s probably more than enough to buy what you need. But I will repeat you probably shouldn’t spend more than you can PIF anyway.
