hi guys. This is my first post, just joined right now. hoorrayyy ! As stated above i would LOVE a amex card.
Heres some info on me.
Credit score ATM is 734 according to discover.
19 years old last semester of college, got my first credit card october of last year, which is a discover for a limit of 500$ before that i got denied for macys and capital one. Not 100% sure if i got denied for capital one because they sent a letter asking for proof of income and i threw it out. wasint thinking right, lol. Then i got accepted for discover as stated above. I have two jobs and go to school full time. Income of 25k a year. this is not including grants from my schools. I have a car thats paid for, and pay insurance every month. The amex i would love to get is Amex Everyday. If that is out of reach what would be my best bet. Thanks all have a great afternoon.
oh and i pay in full every month.
You're probably better off waiting and filling out your card portfolio before applying for the AMEX. Remember that you should be including ALL sources of income, which for you would include grants/loans, etc. when applying for cards.
If Discover only approved you for $500 you must have a thin file, and I highly doubt AMEX would approve you. But you're more than welcome to try. Please let us know the results if you do. ![]()
Edit: Also I just remembered you said you were denied for some other cards, and I would consider those easier to get than an AMEX.
ahh.
When i was denied it was because i had no history. Discover was my first
On the plus side, you've had your Discover for more than 6 months, so that's a positive thing. The lowest limit I've seen given out for an AMEX is $1000, which is double what you have now.
It sounded like cap1 wanted to approve you, just needed proof. As for Amex like someone else mentioned best to build your portfolio first. So let your discover card age a little and when you have a aaoa of at least 6 mos - 1 yr then apply
You have low AAoA , but your score is well off and income is decent for your age. I think it's worth a shot. If denied, burning an HP at 19 is really no biggie.
If you can't get in with Amex, I would try for Chase Freedom or Barlcay Sallie Mae. Getting in with any of them, would be a huge accomplishment.
Best of luck. ![]()
AMEX pre-approved me, Capital One won't. My Cap One is securred. I am a big believer in securred. My advice would be get a securred for now and in three months, you'll be almost a shoe in for an AMEX.
But if you don't want to wait, go to AMEX site and try the Pre-Qualify/Approve option - it worked for me =)

You have a chance and I think you should attempt to get in with amex!
My story: I had the discover it with a $500 limit for 8 months before I recently applied for the amex delta. I listed income at 13k and was appproved for a 3k card. That was my 2nd card so I can tell you that it is doable. Your income is higher than mine so I think it would be worth it to attempt to get the card. If you go for it keep us updated and good luck!
Also might not be a bad idea to see if you can get a CLI with discover with a Soft Pull.
Chase usually doesnt approve unless your aaoa is at least 6 mos.
