3x amex CLI - not.so.much!

Well, the first time I requested 3x on my Delta gold, I was approved.  Taken up to $8500 (my largest CL)

Today marks 6 months, and another chance at 3x.  I was thinking about going for 3x on my Costco TE (currently 2k CL), but then another member suggested that I go for 3x on my Delta, and when I cancel the card, transfer the CL to Costco.

Well, I went for the gusto, since I've been approved for 30k+ spend on my PRG along with 30k+ pay-over-time on my PRG....I entered $25.5k

The system immediately fired back that I had been approved for a new CL of $10k

About 15k less than I was hoping for Smiley Very Happy , but I'll take it.  So long as this repo continues to report - my scores being in low 700's and moderate income won't justify anyone giving me that sort of leash.

Re: 3x amex CLI - not.so.much!

Thanks.

Some INQ will have fallen-off.

Util won't really change, since I continue to keep it under 10%.  My income may increase by 15+% by the time the next 3x comes around.

But the Delta will be canceled between now and that 6mo. So I'll need to transfer my CL to the Costco TE, and then shoot for the 3x on it at that point.

Oh the games we play.

Re: 3x amex CLI - not.so.much!

That's actually pretty funny if you think about it. You will transfer the existing $10K line, and end up requesting a larger increase than you did this time. So in the end, you will have the chance to move up to $36K next time even though you missed $25K this time around.

I thoroughly enjoy the games we all play.

I think we can only go as high as 25k on these cards via the system increases.

Anything beyond that will result in a FR.

Re: 3x amex CLI - not.so.much!

Well, there has been a lot of conjecture on that subject, but everything I have seen indicates that it is a YMMV situation. There have been many reports of requests for tax documentation once higher limits are reached, but also plenty of reports where those docs haven't been asked for when high CLs are requested.

But either way, I have not seen a single instance where a CLI request has led to an FR, which would be defined as spending ability shut down. Let me look for some links and get back to you with forum "evidence". Which will always depend on its source, of course.

Re: 3x amex CLI - not.so.much!

Two quick posts showing some definite YMMV situations. But in both threads, no one reported that spending ability was shut down.

Re: 3x amex CLI - not.so.much!

There has been some confusion about this point. But if you're asked for documentation for requesting a CLI, and you don't comply within (I believe) 30 days, then your request is canceled and you just keep your old limit.

As SnackTrader pointed out, there is little evidence about an automatic "true" FR being initiated for requesting a high CLI.

Grats on your increase still, 10k is a very respectable limit Smiley Tongue

Re: 3x amex CLI - not.so.much!

Thanks guys.

I really do not need the 10k limit, nevermind the 25k limit.

In fact, on this particular card, I have a -$54.xx balance (that's a negative balance, as in they owe me monies Smiley Very Happy)

So it looks like I'll end up keeping my Zync, since I'll have them transfer $25 of that cr. bal. to that card and pay the AF that just posted.
