A Rebuilding Story

Well, firstly I want to thank everyone that participates in these forums.  A lot of good advice and good direction.

So, I want to say that in the last six months I have completely turned around my available credit.  I started with an old Capital One Card with a $470 limit I have had forever.  Was the only credit card I had after my divorce.

In any event, I want to share what cards I got, when, and so on in the hopes that others might be able to take advatege of this oppoertunities.  I work hard and have a high income, so your mileage may vary from mine.

LLBean Visa from Barclays - 3/14 - $1,200 (I shop at LL Bean quite frequently so the bonus certificates are nice).

Capital One Platinum - called and complained and got a $500 increase.  4/14

Capital One Quicksilver One - 4/14 - had to send income verification, $3,000 line; increased to $10,000 in 9/14 after making the fifth payment.

Discover Chrome - 4/14 - $1,500

Amex Green - 3/14 - fairly easy to get, spending ability $10,000 generally.

Liberty Bank and Trust, New Orleans, LA - 8/14 - applied online; had to upload income verification and identification, $10,000 line with 9.9% interest; no frills.  I highly recommend this card especially the interest rate.

USAA Amex Cash Rewards - 9/15 - $5,000

Barclay's Black Card  - 9/15 - $5,000 - I know this is an unpopular card but the travel insurance and airport lounge stuff will more than pay the $495 annual fee. If you travel by air a good bit, this is a worthwhile card.  If you don't, it isn't.

Amazing what you can accomplish in six months. Having more than $30,000 in available credit is a nice feeling.  Keeping my utilization at 1%.  We'll see how all this grows.  My credit score went from 626 to 676 over these six months despite the inquiries.  I highly recommend Liberty Bank & Trust if you qualify geographically to apply.

Re: A Rebuilding Story

I forget to mention the Liberty Bank & Trust card is a Visa Gold.  The bank is African-American owned and prides itself on giving folks a fresh start after credit mistakes.  Have talked to them and they are very nice folks.
