AE Green Card

Hi everybody.  I was approved for the AE Green Card tonight.  It is my first AE CArd I have ever been approved for.  I have been rebuilding for a few years and have done quite nicely.  All three scores are just under 700.  I have broken into Chase, Discover, Citi, Barclay, and now AE.  I apped because i went to the preapprove site and it said I ws preapproved.  I have to admit it, but I think i did it simply because it ws AE.....i wasnt even aware that it was a charge card.  My question is, i understand that there isnt a preset spending limit, but there must be some sort of limit.  How does that work.  Also, for someone who doesnt spend more than about 750 or more a month even be a good candidate for this card?  The 95 fee in the second year doesnt seem like something that i will be wanting to pay unless there is a good reason.  i would love some feedback!

thanks

Re: AE Green Card

Grats first of all. Second, being that it's a charge card, you have to pay every statement balance in full before the next one is generated. No preset spending limit essentially means it's a "flexible" spending limit of sorts, which means the amount you can charge can fluctuate based on spend patterns, payment patterns, and income known to Amex. You can check your spending power online to see how much you can charge for a single transaction. $750 isn't a bad amount of spend per month to put on a card, however the Green Card has a very lackluster rewards structure. The PRG has a much better rewards structure (3x Flights, 2x Restaurants/Gas/Groceries, 1x everything else), although the AF is higher as well ($195), but it's waived the first year. Whether it works for you or not depends on *what* you spend on, though.

Re: AE Green Card

Enjoy the card. Prior to my financial collapse in 2007 I had the AE Platinum card, the benefits were nice. I miss the card

Re: AE Green Card

Thank you for the information.   Will AE PC this to a credit card at some point tin the future?

Re: AE Green Card

Congrats!! Yes Amex has an internal limit for charge cards but it varies by the individual. There's a check spending ability button when you log in but I wouldn't go nuts on it.

Re: AE Green Card

I don't think you can PC a charge card to a credit card or vice versa. You can only PC between the same kind of card. (i.e. Charge to charge, such as Green to Gold)

Re: AE Green Card

Congrats! The amex offers let you chip away at that annual fee. If you can add a user and its free, you can double dip the twitter sync offers when they come around.
