Finally! I have survived the Hunger Games known as the DOVER FCU credit card approval process. It was daunting, uncertain, frustrating, and took much resiliance but in the end I have been approved for $29,000. It all started with an online preapproval of $37,200 which sent me spiralling into a well timed "app-spree". I applied for the preapproval on May 25 then began plotting my moves.
I applied on June 6 to which the app glitched an did not do an inquiry. This messed up my strategy because I typically adopt the simultaneous app strategy where I pull multiple apps up at once and apply at one time so that the banks/CU can't see that I'm applying at the same time and I get the best scenario I for each institution. I app'd Dover and NASA at the same time (Experian). With NASA going through and getting that inquiry I was concerned that would affect my Dover app when the time came for them to actually do the inquiry. Well my worst fears came true as Dover did not officially do an inquiry until June 24!! Everything leading up to this was completely frustrating. I had done a big app spree on June 3 and it got to the point where new accounts were beginning to show on TU, EX, and EQ. I'd call & reach out online multiple times a week to no avail...
Finally I was assigned a member rep on June 14 and they asked for two months paystubs, driver's license, and social security card. I sent these items and heard nothing until June 23 (after calling multiple times). June 24 they officially pulled an inquiry and offered $29,000. I wanted to press for the $37,200 but at this point I just accepted immediately. After playing phone tag on June 27, I needed another phone consultation to finalize the application. Spoke to the rep on Tuesday, after business hours (shoutout to them for their dedication), and was asked for personal references (they did not call), job information, and still needed to organize a video verification during business hours. Wednesday I had the video call with the rep where I was asked more confirming questions.
Low and behold, I was finally approved for $29,000!! 0% interest for the next 12 months which I'd utilizing to do some home renovations. Will not push more than 30% utilization and will keep it moving.
Also.. this last approval pushes my "App Spree" totals over 6 figures to $109,000 grabbed in the month of June. I still haven't tapped any Transunion apps but with them starting to show up on the bureaus I may do 1 or 2 more before entering the garden for a while.
