AmEx Approvals- did I make a mistake? Could this translate to an offer for a charge card?

What's up guys?

I've been reading around trying to find answers to this scenario I kind of put my self in, and I'm pleased to report no one else has done what I did in the excitement of finally being approved for an Amex. Back story- I've struggled with a positive profile for some years, finally have focused up and made it a priority. Flirting with 650/675 right now and moving forward. Did a pre approval for Amex online the other day and was blessed with an offer from 3 of 4 delta products. I opted for the gold, which they gave me immediately 1000 CL. Eh okay. But I was in.

I do some travel for work, so as the days went on I tried to upgrade the card to the platinum since I had the pre approval and see if they would do that before it was even issued. Learned they would not, and was told my the agent that I would need to apply. I initially said I'm good with the gold let me make a relationship happen. Five days later hit the prequalifier again and was prequalified again for a gold, platinum and now reserve. So candidly I said **bleep** it. I grabbed the platinum. Now I have two delta cards. It's okay, I will absolutely use the **bleep** out of the platinum perks with work. The gold card is obsolete in comparison. Going to keep it obviously and meet minimum spend etc for the welcome bonus.

But at the end of the long winded rant...establishing the relationship with American Express...will this hopefully lead to a pre approval to either the gold platinum or blue cash preferred? From reading on the forums here it really seems like once your in, you are in hard so long as you don't **bleep** up. Anyone else have experience? Can I transition the gold delta into another product? Hilton maybe? Upgrade gold to platinum and platinum to reserve and just waste all the money on annual fees? Haha. Anyways- guidance, feedback, what to expect, and how to add to my Amex pocket portfolio would be appreciated. Thank you.

But at the end of the long winded rant...establishing the relationship with American Express...will this hopefully lead to a pre approval to either the gold platinum or blue cash preferred? A lot will depend on your relationship/profile with American Express, so it is possible, but you will need to give things some time. The timeframe will vary for every individual and since you just recently obtained 2 new revolving cards, you won't be eligible to apply for any other American Express revolving accounts after 90-days (their rules). From reading on the forums here it really seems like once your in, you are in hard so long as you don't **mess** up - yes, I can sense the excitement but please watch the language. Anyone else have experience? If you pay your bills on time, are never late and don't have any returned/NSF payments, then yes anything can be possible with your American Express relationship. Can I transition the gold delta into another product? Only in the Delta SkyMiles family of cards, so you can downgrade to Delta Blue or upgrade all the way to Delta Reserve. Hilton maybe? Nope Upgrade gold Delta Gold, yes to platinum Delta Platinum, yes and platinum to reserve - yes and just waste all the money on annual fees? I would suggest evaluating the AFs after a year to determine whether you are getting a decent value/ROI on the cards. Also, do not downgrade or cancel these 2 particular cards until after 12 months -- evaluate things at that point whether an upgrade or downgrade would be viable or keep as is. Haha. Anyways- guidance, feedback, what to expect, and how to add to my Amex pocket portfolio would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi @Graz1214 - welcome to the forums and congrats.

Congrats on your Amex Gold approval . . . I am relatively new to Amex (1 year ) but I have 2 personal cards, 1 business card and a personal Amex loan and I love their products so far.  Smiley Happy

@FinStar after re reading this- silly question. I saw where you said I'd have to wait 90 days for opening another revolving Amex account. Out of curiosity (not applying by any means) does that include the charge cards as well?

No, just any additional American Express revolving accounts (personal and/or business).
