Amazon Prime

I make a lot of purchases through Amazon.  As I was making a new order I was ready to pay when it said "see if you are prequalified" so I did.  I was approved for a very small amount even though I have a few cards with Synchrony.  I went for it anyway.  Approved!  But now as I think about it.  I don't want it.  Can I contact them to close it.  And is it going to hurt my credit.

Congrats on the approval, what limit did you receive ?   Your FICO score will be impacted by both the inquiry for the approval and any change to your AAoA once the account hits your reports.    Regardless of whether you close the account, the inquiry and account will be on your reports.     Alternately you can always just sock drawer the card if you don't plan to use it.

Was this the Amazon Prime Visa or the Amazon store card? The former is through Chase, the latter throuh Synchrony. If you got the prime, it may give you more value with rewards if you let it grow with CLI over time. Regardless, even if you regret your decision, with no AF I wouldn't close but at least sock drawer with occasional Amazon spends to let it accumulate age.

Re: Amazon Prime

It's the Amazon Prine card through Synchrony with a very low limit of $1300.  Most of my cards are double digits.  It literally was an impulse trigger.  Sometime I like play to see if I'm pre-qualified and they will give you an amount but this one didn't so I pulled the trigger.  Now I wish I didn't.  At any rate. I'll do my best to sock drawer it... could be hard because I have a million dollars worth of stuff in my Save For Later basket at Amazon🤣
