Amex BCE

Got me a shiny new BCE card today! I had decided to wait for a score improvement, but I really wanted the grocery/gas categories covered. I had a pre approval on the site, so I went for it. Only $1k, but that is enough for groceries and gas with a PIF every month. Now I am looking forward to the 3x CLI try in 61 days.

1k in 61 days can turn to 3k!  Congratulations ! 

Where as my 0k in 61 days would still be 0k! 

I am so jelly - that is one card that I cannot get... 

I am in the garden and I see you must have just headed to the garden! 

So in the garden we will all be growing beautiful crops of cli's etc.

Good point re:3x0. I was in the garden already, I just tiptoed out momentarily for this.. I can't wait for these crops to grow. The waiting is hard! LOL. I still have a few wants (dining card, categories) but I will wait until the first of the year to give my scores a chance to climb a bit.

I know this is the wrong sub-forum, but since I already have a thread about this card...

Is the gas station reward for all gas station purchases? Like if I stop at the convenience store for a gallon of milk, do I get the 2%, or is it just gas?

Congrats! I've gotten a few offers for this card and it's definitely one I want to get soon but I'm trying to wait until after I move to get new cards so the inquiries/new accounts don't drop my score any.

Good question.  I've often wondered the answer to this as well.  I think it should be included as I would assume it goes by the vendor.  For example, with the CB on "groceries" it goes by grocery store to my knowledge.  We all know there are plenty of non-grocery items in a grocery store, and I believe if you went in there and dropped $100 on non-grocery items you'd still get the CB since the purchases were made at a valid approved grocery vendor in the eyes of Amex.  That's my take, but I'd love to hear a finite answer from someone that knows for sure!

Congrats on your BCE! As for your question, it really varies station to station and what their MCC codes are. The Chevron by me codes for groceries inside and gas outside, while the Valero a mile down the road codes as gas inside and out.
